Dana White had hinted that a title fight was in the cards for the Borz if he were to defeat Usman but it would appear that Chimaev still has to bid his time for that shot. Khamzat Chimaev wants to make a comeback

Khamzat Chimaev’s fight with Kamaru Usman was a treat for the ages. Both the fighters showcased immense hearts. With Usman climbing down the peak, one painful step at a time, and Chimaev running up that hill like his life depended on it, this was always going to be a thriller of a fight. And it didn’t disappoint. Of course, what fans really wanted was something different.

Chimaev was slated to fight Paulo Costa but immediate surgery for a nasty staph infection on his elbow forced him out of the competition and Usman had to jump in to fill the gap. Usman had to take that fight with less than a week’s notice and even though he put up a great fight, it was almost as if he was passing the torch. However, despite the win, the night didn’t exactly go as Chimaev had planned.

When does Chimaev fight again?

‘Borz’at the end of the fight claimed that he may have broken his wrist but we got no official confirmation from his team. However, Dana White’s now confirming Sean Strickland’s fight with Dricus Du Plessis confirmed Chimaev’s injury. So it would appear Chimaev has a bit of recovery time on his hands before he can waltz in and begin smashing people. But if one were to tune in to Chimaev’s Instagram account a  little while ago, they would find him talking about fighting at UFC 300. So when is he actually coming back?

While having a conversation on his Instagram handle Chimaev said ” I’m going to do surgery, an operation in one, two weeks. After that, I’ll do the recovery, come back, smash somebody… Tell Dana White, make the UFC 300 fight happen.”

Chimaev has just moved from the welterweight division to the middleweight division but has also called out the current light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira for a fight. So you never know what happens. While its unlikely that he gets his hands on Pereira anytime soon, as a fan, one can only hope that the Borz graces us with his unique brand of brutality soon.
