Islam Makhachev defeated Thiago Moises at the UFC Vegas 31 event on July 17, 2021. This fight was highly anticipated as both fighters were coming into the fight on the back of a string of victories. Moises had won his last 3 UFC fights, while Makhachev had won his last 7.

Going into the fight, Makhachev was being touted as the heavy favorite, and he did not disappoint as he won the fight via a 4th round Submission. After winning the fight, Makhachev called out various top-ranked fighters. Michael Chandler, Rafael dos Anjos and Tony Ferguson were amongst the most popular names called out by Makhachev.

When during the post-fight interview Makhachev was asked who he would rather face in his next fight. The fighter clearly seemed to prefer one fighter over the others. He said, “If they’re gonna give me a choice, let’s do it with Tony because we have a good history with him. Khabib was supposed to fight with him five, six times.”

“Let’s finish this. I’m gonna finish this. I’m gonna show people around the world Tony is not on Khabib’s level. People don’t understand how Khabib has pressure. I cannot explain to you guys, but I think you know everything.”

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson were touted to fight each other various times, however, it kept getting canceled every time. People even believe at one point that ‘El Cucuy’ was the only fighter capable enough to beat Nurmagomedov.

Therefore, as Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have so much history. Makhachev thinks a fight with Ferguson next will be great for him. Makhachev’s manager seems to believe the same as he took to Twitter to call out Ferguson.

Is a fight between Islam Makhachev and Tony Ferguson on the card?

After Makhachev expressed his desire to face ‘El Cucuy’ next, his manager took to Twitter to call out Ferguson. Ali Abdelaziz wrote, “@TonyFergusonXT Islam ask me about your location MAKHACHEVMMA.”

He even called out Dana White to complete the deal for Islam Makhachev’s next fight. He wrote, “@danawhite also Let’s finish this deal.”

Makhachev clearly wants to fight Ferguson if he gets the choice and with Abdelaziz gunning for that, we might see the two fighters compete in the UFC real soon.
