UFC just wrapped up the Fight Night: Lewis vs Spivac event. The main event resulted in Derrick Lewis‘s loss to Serghei Spivac via arm-triangle submission in the first round. UFC president Dana White appeared in the post-fight press conference and discussed the upcoming bout between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284. However, the 53-year-old promoter forgot the current lightweight champion’s name.

Islam Makhachev vs. Alexander Volkanovski is one of the most anticipated matches this year in the UFC. The Dagestani will be putting his belt on the line. While ‘The Great’ will put his no. 1 pound-for-pound UFC ranking up for grabs.

The fight will be held in Perth, Australia. Alexander Volkanovski will have the added advantage of a home crowd. Moreover, UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be in Makhachev‘s corner for the fight. It was confirmed by the Dagestan native himself.

Dana White forgets the name of Islam Makhachev

The UFC boss was first asked about Derrick Lewis‘s future in the company at the post-fight press conference. White assuringly told the media that he will be staying in the UFC. Then he shared his thoughts on the UFC 284 main event and claimed that it was a special match for the UFC. “I don’t it’s ever happened that number 1 and number 2, pound-for-pound,” said Dana White.

He also added, “It’s a monster fight, and uh, you know the gate …just the gate alone outta there is gonna be an MSG-type gate.”

The UFC president also mentioned that the Makhachev vs Volkanovski fight will break pay-per-view records in Australia and New Zealand, previously held by one of Conor McGregor‘s fights. However, while mentioning what the fight meant for each fighter’s legacy, White stumbled to say recall the Dagestani’s name. He said, “You know when you talk about legacy, if [Alexander] Volkanovski could pull this off, it’s obviously massive, and if uh …if uh …(forgets Makhachev’s name) yeah, could pull it off, he is on his way to building an incredible legacy.”

Alexander Volkanovski will be moving up in weight to challenge for the UFC’s most stacked division’s prize. He will have the hometown advantage. But Islam Makhachev is confident that he can win the fight even if ‘The Eagle’ won’t be by his side.
