Tony Ferguson went down to Charles Oliveira and lost consecutive fights for the first time in his illustrious career. It was a rather lackluster performance, according to Ferguson’s high standards.

Tony Ferguson lost all 3 rounds of the fight. He was also locked up in an armbar at the end of round 1. How he didn’t tap out to that submission attempt is beyond anyone’s understanding. Speaking to the media at the post-fight conference, UFC President Dana White opened up on Ferguson’s future.

Dana White expressed his disappointment at not seeing the best version of Ferguson out in the octagon. Whilst excuses could be made about Ferguson’s double weight cut depleting him the last time around, it is unclear whether external factors played a role in ‘El Cucuy’s’ defeat. Nevertheless, he remained as tough as nails.

“I mean 10 out of 10 people will tap to that armbar. The fact that he even made it through the armbar is unbelievable. It’s a testament to how tough, durable, and crazy Tony Ferguson is,” said Dana White. No doubt he was surprised Ferguson didn’t tap out despite his arm being almost broken.

Tony Ferguson Vs Khabib Nurmagomedov: The fight that never happened

Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov are two best lightweights in the history of the UFC. Despite that fight being scheduled 5 times by the UFC, those two men never stood across each-other inside the octagon. It’s sad for the fans that they missed such a treat.

Like all the fans, Dana White seemed disheartened by that fact too. He said, “It just didn’t. It wasn’t from lack of trying. I mean, we put that fight together 5 times. It just wasn’t meant to be.”

At 36, Ferguson looks like a shade of his former self. It might be a saddening fact that even Tony Ferguson is past his prime- as per his fights in 2020.
