After a recent bout in ‘The Ultimate Fighter 31: Team McGregor vs. Team Chandler’, Makhachev decided to share his views on social media about what he thinks of Timur Valiev, right after his controversial loss.

The talent deserves another chance

In his very vocal support of his friend and training partner, Timur Valiev, Islam Makhachev wanted the UFC to give him another chance. Valiev had to face defeat in the semifinals of TUF 31, as the former UFC fighter suffered a split decision loss against Brad ‘Superman ‘ Katona, who had switched teams to join the team of McGregor.

Despite Valiev?s loss in the semi-finals, Makhachev firmly believes that Valiev deserves another chance to return to the UFC roster. Taking to his social media, the UFC Lightweight champion tweeted “Timur needs to be in the UFC“. He also uploads a story on his Instagram with a picture of Timur tagging Dana White above it. He also made a surprise appearance on the 10th episode of TUF 31 to wish his friend good luck before his bout.

The journey so far and what comes next?

Valiev joined the UFC in 2020 but faced a setback when his debut TKO loss was later ruled a No Contest as his opponent tested positive for marijuana. And despite winning two fights in 2021, he didn’t receive a new contract from the UFC after losing to Jack Shore. There is still hope for Valiev though as the UFC often signs talented fighters from the show even if they do not win the competition, despite his loss against Brad Katona. Valiev also has Makhachev’s constant backing and vocal support which could increase his chances of being re-signed for the promotion.

As the current TUF season continues, featuring a unique format featuring former UFC fighters facing prospects, Makhachev’s presence on the show raises interest and adds more excitement. But would his support be enough to help Valiev make his way into the UFC? Let us know in the comments below.
