Although the current Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski is arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, the division is riddled with fighters who are not far behind. Former Featherweight champ Max Holloway defeated the highly regarded Jose Aldo back in 2017 to become the champ and since then, has gone on to prove himself, time and again.

Yesterday, the UFC came to Singapore for one of its events. UFC Fight Night: Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie was the main fight card that featured a lot of exciting primary and preliminary fights. However, when Holloway knocked out, Chan Sun Jung, also known as The Korean Zombie, the arena erupted. He displayed top-notch boxing in the ring and now, it seems he is pressing for a boxing fight as well.

Yeah, I would box whoever. Whoever wants to box. Dana White… tell him – somebody… I’ll box whoever you wanna box.“, answered Max Holloway. He seemed really enthused by the idea as he cut the interviewer off before he could even finish the question. “Boxing’s more easy. I don’t have to worry about kick and elbow… I’d- a takedown, brother! Like, we’re good, you know what I mean?“, he added. He openly sent his message to UFC President Dana White, asking for a boxing bout.

He then started talking about himself, his use of boxing in his UFC fights, and his fight against The Korean Zombie. “Most of my head – most of my boxing movement right now is like is… it’s hard to do cause… even with Zombie I was like brother, I’m not gonna… like he was setting me up for, I felt like a knee or something I was like bro I’m not gonna duck my head here. You’re gonna hit me with a knee or so.“, recalled Holloway. In the end, he doubled down on wanting a boxing fight in the near future. “A boxing fight – 100%.“, he added.

Crossover fights have become popular ever since former UFC Lightweight champ Conor McGregor fought the undefeated Floyd Mayweather. According to official reports, the fight generated more than $600 million. Both fighters went home with a huge purse. Following closely was McGregor’s rival Nate Diaz who fought Jake Paul. Diaz took home a guaranteed $500,00 and a share of the profits, PPV buys, and more.

If that wasn’t enough, former UFC HW champ Francis Ngannou is all set to fight WBC champ Tyson Fury on 28 October in Abu Dhabi. Fellow PFL signee Jake Paul pointed out that Ngannou stands to make at least $10 million from that fight.

With fighters getting paid such a hefty sum for being in a boxing ring, it is understandable why Max Holloway might want to make a ‘big money move’. Given that he is also a terrific boxer, it only makes sense for him to be able to go out and get it. But, at the end of the day, it all boils down to whether this is something that works for Dana White or not.
