Dana White Refuses Islam Makhachev’s Offer and Announces Major Charles Oliveira Update Following UFC 300

Dana White has shut down Islam Makhachev’s plans for his fights against Charles Oliveira, Justin Gaethje, and Arman Tsarukyan! In a recent interview with Aaron Bronsteter for Sportsnet, the UFC head honcho revealed the plans for the high-stakes matchup between the elite lightweights at the upcoming UFC 300 card!

The historic event has been marked by the addition of Gaethje vs. Max Holloway, the former featherweight champion, who will be moving up a weight class for the fight. But White’s reveal about the stakes behind the clash between Oliveira and Tsarukyan has seemingly dashed the Dagestani champion’s proposed plans for this year!

UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev had recently stated his plans for the upcoming year. In a post on social media, Makhachev shared, “June 8 UFC PPV vs Gaethje, November UFC MSG vs Olivera/Arman, February 2025 vs Anybody Inshallah”

But in a recent interview, Dana White confirmed significant matchups for UFC 300, shutting down Islam Makhachev’s wishes. White emphasized the importance of every fight on the card, including Justin Gaethje vs. Max Holloway for the BMF championship and Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan in the lightweight division.

Responding to a question about the Oliveira-Tsarukyan bout being a no.1 contender fight, White stated, “And yes, that’s a no.1 contender fight.”

He also highlighted the significance of Jim Miller’s fight, emphasizing the veteran’s remarkable run by stating, “Not only is every fight a must-see, every fight is important. Jim Miller breaking into the Top 15 at his age, and what he’s been able to do, the run that he’s been on.”

White’s latest reveal adds to the anticipation surrounding UFC 300, as every bout carries weight, making it a must-see event. While Makhachev’s aspirations may need to be adjusted, the card’s unveiled matchups ensure an unforgettable spectacle that will shape the course of UFC history.

However, it wasn’t just Islam Makhachev who was left disappointed by White’s reveal as fans who were expecting legends to return at UFC 300 also received an important update from the UFC boss!

White shuts down the fans’ hopes for UFC 300

UFC 300 is gearing up to be a monumental event, and UFC CEO Dana White has quashed speculations of former stars making surprise comebacks for the historic night. In his conversation with Sportsnet, White assured fans that while more marquee bouts are in the works, there were no plans to entice fighters like Ronda Rousey, Georges St-Pierre, or Brock Lesnar back into the octagon.

The UFC CEO revealed, “Ronda’s not coming back, GSP’s not coming back. Brock Lesnar’s like 45 years old or pushing 50. None of those calls were made.”

While denying the comeback speculations, White guaranteed that UFC 300 would exceed expectations, featuring a depth of talent rarely seen before. Already confirmed is a title fight between strawweight champion Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan!
