Dana White is angry, and no, it has nothing to do with the UFC. In a recent discussion, the UFC CEO was unhappy with how a high school basketball team was allegedly receiving unfair treatment. The team in question is the Oceanside High boys’ basketball team. As per reports, they were told to ease up after the program received complaints about running up the score against their opponents.
The Mariners are a Class B title contender at 12-0 and have averaged 94.8 points per game this season. Thus, when White talked about them, he was fired up about their performance but was disappointed that there had been complaints against the school. What did Dana White say?

Dana White invites the high school basketball team to a fight in Las Vegas!
In a recent discussion with Vivek Ramaswamy on ‘The Mac Life’, Dana White said, “Apparently there’s a basketball team up there that is incredible. High school, high school, or college team. I’m not sure. They’re really good. And they’re smoking teams. The state is now going to impose something on them. They’re going to be penalized for blowing teams out of the water.”
“So I’m going to reach out to the coach of the team out there and see what I could do. If anything. I want to bring that whole team out to a fight in Las Vegas. I want to reward these guys for being such bad a**es.”
“When these p**ies, that control, that whatever league they’re in or whatever, are trying to do this to them. It’s disgusting and every one of you that are involved in this and in the state of Maine that are imposing this thing on this team, you guys f**ing make me sick,” said White upset about the predicament of the high school basketball players.

As per the information available, the team’s head coach, Larry Reed, shared that an MPA (Maine Principals’ Association) official contacted the school after it had received complaints about lopsided scores. “I don’t know who made the complaints or how the complaints happened, but there were complaints to the (Maine Principals’ Association) that we were winning a bit egregiously… We were told we needed to ease off the throttle, and we’ll do that,” he said. But what do the students think about this?
As reported by ‘Central Maine’, Cohen Galley, a player on the team, doesn’t think his team has been unsportsmanlike. “We’ve got a lot of guys that work hard all year long to be great basketball players and be part of a great team, but people kind of want to drag down what we can do,” he stated on the issue. The Mariners won 96-63 over Morse High in Bath. During that game, the team kept the MPA’s request in mind and slowed down. Coach Reed also commanded them to not shoot when the ball was in their possession during the final minute.

Will sanctions be levied against the Oceanside team?
It is not known yet if any sanctions will be levied against the team. Because of confidentiality policies, MPA Executive Director Mike Burnham had declined any comments on the issue. However, Coach Reed revealed that he doesn’t think they run the risk of a punishment. He was willing to make adjustments so that the issue didn’t get out of hand. Reed, alongside Oceanside Athletic Director Troy Smith, addressed the situation with their team.
It seems that opposition teams are worried about The Mariners’ trying to run up the score and create a large score difference. Did you know there’s a rule for this? As per the Mercy Rule, a team’s defense is required to drop within the 3-point line when they are 20 points or more ahead. It is a defensive restriction and the idea here is to promote sportsmanship in junior basketball.

Coming back to Dana White, he went to Hermon High School in Bangor, Maine. Back in 2011, he donated $100,000 so that they could improve their athletic complex. Clearly, the UFC CEO still keeps tabs on high school news in Maine.
