Dana White reviews the career choices of Merab Dvalishvili and Henry Cejudo

In a recent interview with Kevin Iole, the UFC CEO covered quite a lot of topics surrounding the UFC and Power Slap. The pair even covered the career decisions of the two bantamweights fighting on the main card of UFC 298. White was not too pleased Cejudo retired in his prime to return later and Dvalishvili refused to fight for the title for the sake of friendship.

He claimed that it was “ridiculous” for Cejudo to come back after retiring, especially in his prime. He also critiqued Merab Dvalishvili for sitting out of a title fight, simply because “his friend had the title”.

“So, I think you’re looking at two guys that, in my opinion, have made some mistakes in their careers. And Saturday night’s a big deal for both of these guys. Yeah, no, I think that’s that, to me. That’s a fight that I really like,” said White, looking forward to their fight given how much is at stake.

The winner of Henry Cejudo vs. Merab Dvalishvili might get the title shot depending on how the fight at UFC 299 between Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera plays out. Dvalishvili has been on an absolute roll in the UFC, so it would be hard to deny him the title shot if he beats a former champion in Cejudo.

Merab Dvalishvili is on a 9-fight winning streak, coming into his fight against Henry Cejudo. His last two wins came against former champions, Jose Aldo and Petr Yan, whereas Cejudo is coming off of a loss against Aljamain Sterling back at UFC 288. However, “The Machine” is still just as focused coming into the fight, as he knows what “Triple C” can do inside the octagon.

On the media day of UFC 298, Dvalishvili said, “I think he’s talking from the facts. It’s either everything or nothing for him. That’s his mentality, that’s why he’s dangerous because I know he will try everything to win this fight. I’m sure he’s hungry and I know how much he wants it because that’s how much I want it too.”
