Dana White Says Abu Dhabi is the New ‘Fight Capital’ of the UFC

Dana White is close to wrapping up the second series of events at Fight Island. The UFC has now visited Abu Dhabi twice already in this year, with its cards being an enormous success not only in viewership but also in the safety of all those involved.

The UFC President spoke to Brett Okamoto of ESPN and shared his insights regarding Fight Island and Abu Dhabi. The frequency of the UFC’s visits to Abu Dhabi saw Okamoto call Dana White an ‘Honorary Citizen of the United Arab Emirates’.

Currently, the UFC is on a five-week stay at Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, which started with UFC 253. Now with three cards in the books, the last two remaining cards are sure to be blockbusters. White said, “This is the fight capital of the world, right now.”

The UFC President also believes that Abu Dhabi will be the first to have fans back.  He said, “The infrastructure that’s here, all the cool things to do, I think that fans are gonna flock here as soon as this thing opens up,”  The UFC President stated that the company has plans to put on another event in 2021 and invest in the infrastructure in Abu Dhabi. 

Dana addressed reports that there would be some fans in attendance at UFC 254 saying, “That’s not definite yet, but yeah they’re working on it.” White continued, “I’m telling you Abu Dhabi is going to be the first. These guys are smart, they’re progressive, they know what they are doing.”

Dana White is set to close Fight Island with a mega event

The UFC will look to close out their second trip to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi in style. They have a massive main event featuring current lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov fighting interim champion Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.

This represents a second title unification bout for Khabib at Yas Island. ‘The Eagle’ after initially unified the titles after beating Dustin Poirier back in September 2019.

Meanwhile, Justin Gaethje won the interim lightweight title by shocking the world and finishing Tony Ferguson at UFC 249. This ended the hope of fans for a Khabib vs Tony matchup. However, it is still a high stakes bout, and the eyes of the world will be trained on the UFC’s new ‘Fight Capital’.
