The Conor McGregorDustin Poirier saga was a rollercoaster for the MMA fandom! After their initial encounter at UFC 178 in 2014, McGregor emerged victorious. However, at UFC 257 in January 2021, Poirier avenged his loss with a knockout win. Despite McGregor’s initial display of respect and promised charity donation, tensions escalated at their UFC 264 rematch in July 2021.

McGregor’s devastating leg fracture sustained in the match led to a post-fight outburst, including insults directed at Poirier and his wife, Jolie. As such, UFC CEO Dana White later addressed the incident, shedding more light on McGregor’s actions and his thoughts on the entire situation that spiraled out of control between the two parties involved.

In a video from their first rematch at UFC 257, Jolie Poirier can be seen visiting Conor McGregor and his team in the locker room where the Irishman was recovering from his stoppage loss. She stated, “Thank you, thank you for everything. You helped change a lot of people’s lives. Thank you guys, safe travels back.”

Her thanks were a response to McGregor’s promise to donate $500,000 to Dustin Poirier’s ‘Good Fight Foundation’ charity. However, a few months later the Louisiana native took to social media where he claimed McGregor never made good on his promise. This led to the Irishman responding by stating that he didn’t make the donation as he wasn’t given proof of where the funds would be utilized.

He even shared a message request he had received from Poirier’s wife on social media, further escalating the conflict between the pair. As such, during the build-up to their UFC 264 bout, the trash-talking began to take a more personal touch and culminated in McGregor’s now famous rant after the fight where he yelled, “Your wife is in my DM’s”

This marked the end of all possible positivity between the two camps. In a later interview with NewsMax, Dana White made a statement where he revealed, “There was a huge beef between both camps over the donation to Poirier’s charity, and I’m sure the wife was reaching out about the donation for the charity…I assure you that’s why she was reaching out to him.”

White’s statement highlighted the depth of the feud and the personal nature it had taken, and shut down any assumptions outside observers may have made about Jolie Poirier’s actions in light of McGregor’s post-fight outburst.

And while this saga may be in the past, Conor McGregor has recently indicated that he has got a plan in mind for his long-awaited return to the UFC!
