It is common knowledge to the MMA fans that ‘The Notorious’ has been out of action for quite some time now. Nonetheless, he will have to return because of one important detail- his contract. It binds him to come back to the cage even if it’s for one last time. And here’s how the UFC deals with it all.

Dana White and the UFC take fighter contracts rather seriously. If Josh Thomson is to be believed, Conor McGregor has at least one fight still left on his contract. And that means he will come back whether he likes it or not, bound, much like all other fighters.

What does Dana White want?

Josh Thompson on his Weighing In Show revealed how UFC deals with the contract situation of its fighters. “What you’re seeing is, you’re seeing a hold out by the UFC on his contract he has one fight left. He doesn’t want. . . the UFC never wants their fighter to go away with one fight left on the contract they don’t.”

In the same episode of the show, Thomson also claimed that the Irishman is probably not returning anytime this year. That could be true but that will only work to tarnish the Irishman’s image, given his New Year’s Eve update. Thompson said, “I don’t think we’re gonna see Conor this year. I don’t think we’re gonna see Conor this year. Like Dana came out the other day and goes look you know when Conor’s ready. you know we’ll see Conor.”

Either way, it looks like Dana White and his policies won’t let anyone take it easy. McGregor can choose to extend his contract but will it happen? If he wants to stay out of action for any longer, perhaps it’ll have to be that way. But with all his sparring and training videos going viral, perhaps there’s something he’s hiding from everyone.

Why is McGregor not making things clear?

Most likely, McGregor has a lot to reap from if he keeps teasing everyone about his return. The greatest showman of the UFC knows how to pull in the audience. Plus, once he does return, it could mean an even more eager fanbase for him. And if he does have a fight left in the contract, he has no choice but to come back.

Is Dana White upset with him about the wild announcements? Not really. He was silent for quite a while and then he declined the rumors about his return. Will he finally confront ‘The Notorious’ about it? Or will his free speech policy remain in place? The next time we see McGregor could be anytime around International Fight Week. That seems like the perfect time for him to come back. But will he though? Only time can tell.
