The UFC is fast approaching its triple-century pay-per-view event in UFC 300. A few days back, the promotion announced that the PPV would take place on April 13, 2024, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. While we are waiting for the announcement of the card for the event, strawweight champion Zhang Weili recently expressed her wish to fight flyweight champion Alexa Grasso in that monumental event.

There is no lack of the number of fighters who’ve mentioned time and time again about wanting to become a double champion, a fashion started by Conor McGregor back in 2016. We have since then had Daniel Cormier, Henry Cejudo, and Amanda Nunes follow the route and achieve that accolade. Now, we might have Zhang Weili, who wants to hold two belts. Let’s take a look at what transpired.

Zhang Weili wants double champ status, challenges Alexa Grasso

‘Magnum’ Weili is one of the biggest strawweight fighters in the UFC. She has captured the divisional title on two occasions and is still going strong as the reigning champion. Now, it seems like Zhang Weili has another divisional title in sight. She recently took to Instagram and commented on a post shared by Flyweight champion Alexa Grasso, asking her if she’d like to fight her at UFC 300. Weili said, “Hi champion. Maybe the fans want to see us fight at UFC300.”

When the Chinese star’s proposition came to Alexa Grasso’s attention, she showed interest. The 30-year-old also mentioned how much she looked up to Zhang Weili and stated that she was game for the fight. However, Grasso wanted the fight to take place in her weight class. She said, “I admire you so much! And I’d love to defend my tittle with you. Would you make 125?”

Apparently, ‘Magnum’ has no problems with making weight for the flyweight bout and is looking forward to the champion vs. champion title bout. She dropped the request to Dana White. “[Alexa Grasso] Let’s Gooooo champion. I can go up to 125. [Dana White] [UFC]. Let’s make it happen,” said Zhang Weili. The UFC CEO will have to assess this situation to make a call. Meanwhile, we can take a look at the other fighters who could be fighting at UFC 300.

Fighters who might find themselves competing on the UFC 300 card

There is no doubt that UFC 300 is a significant event for Dana White’s promotion. As such, there is no doubt that the matchmakers would look to make this PPV a special one for the fans. Besides the possibility of a fight between Zhang Weili and Alexa Grasso, we might get to see interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall defend his belt while Jon Jones recuperates from his shoulder injury.

In addition to that, fans might also get to see the return of Khamzat Chimaev and light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who is slated to take on Jamahal Hill for his next title defense. When it comes to the fighters who are uncertain to be a part of UFC 300, Conor McGregor and Brock Lesnar are among the bunch. ‘The Notorious’s UFC return was previously reported to have been under consideration for July 2024, while there is no word regarding ‘The Beast Incarnate’.

There is a lot of work to be done for the card of UFC 300 since Dana White has not mentioned anything about it at all. With 2023 coming to an end, the 54-year-old has only announced the main events and a few other fights for the first three PPVs of 2024. We will have to wait and see how things develop for the triple-century event in the days and months to come.
