Conor McGregor is diligently working towards his return to the octagonal arena. The former dual-weight champion was initially slated to make his UFC return in December, but a conflict with USADA led to his withdrawal. USADA required ‘Mystic Mac’ to be in a six-month drug testing pool. Speculations are that McGregor might make his comeback around UFC 300, but no official announcement has been made yet.

The Irishman is clearly excited to make a comeback, to headline the UFC 300 against Michael Chandler. Amidst the commotion, a voice that could provide a clear answer emerges. McGregor’s coach and friend, John Kavanagh, has shared his perspective. Let’s delve deeper to understand Kavanagh’s assessment.

Last month, there was a noteworthy development as “The Notorious” rejoined the USADA testing pool. This move was deemed significant, despite the impending conclusion of the UFC’s partnership with USADA at the beginning of the next year. Kavanagh, during a recent in-studio appearance on The MMA Hour, illuminated the anticipated timeline for McGregor’s return to the octagon.

The SBG coach stated that they were looking at the summertime rather than the UFC 300 for McGregor’s return. “We were hoping for April,” explained Kavanagh. The luminary coach further added “That was the hope, that was what we were told, and then now it seems to be the summertime…Do we really need him for UFC 300? That’s gonna be such a massive event. Are they holding him back for International Fight Week? I don’t really know.”

Kavanagh stated that July is a better date than April for McGregor. He counted“At least he’s getting training in, and that’s so important…And this is what I was saying to him as well, ‘Yeah, okay. It’s a knockback that we’re hearing it was April but now it’s July, but it’s not the end of the world. It is an extra couple of months. It’s not great. But hey, you’re enjoying your training at the moment, let’s just keep that going.'”

McGregor last won his fight back in 2020 and since then he has yet to provide any significant performance. UFC 300 was the stage set for him but Kavanagh is of a different opinion. Interestingly his assessment goes against Dana White‘s plan.
