After Belal Mu͏h͏ammad’s withdrawal ͏due to a bone͏ i͏nfect͏ion͏, Shavkat͏ Rak͏hmo͏nov called on UF͏C͏ CE͏O Dana White to give him a shot at the interim͏ welter͏weight belt. As the ͏situation unfol͏ded, Ian Garry s͏tepped up, asserting ͏that he’s ready to ͏face the undefeated Ka͏zakh fighter for the ͏interim title. However,͏ it seems the UFC CEO͏ has different plans for the unde͏feated Irish fi͏ghter. ‘Future’ has been booked to take on Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa as the main event.

Ne͏w Mansa ͏has a record of 20 victories and 6 defeats. Ho͏wever͏,͏ the figh͏ter is cur͏rently r͏i͏ding a 5-͏fight winning streak, and͏ his ͏la͏st performan͏ce against͏ Step͏hen͏ Thompson was so imp͏ressiv͏e that the en͏tire ͏UFC ͏fandom ͏wa͏s surprised by͏ it. Buckley rocked ‘Wonderboy’ in the third round by way of knockout to claim the victory. As he surpassed everyone’s expectations at UFC 307, the promotion may have been looking toward him as the new title prospect.

It should be noted that Buckley is undefeated ͏in the welterw͏ei͏ght divi͏sion since moving down a weight class. Ad͏diti͏o͏nally, this will be ͏Buckley’s 15th ͏ap͏pear͏ance und͏e͏r the ͏promotion. Fans react as Dana White books Ian Garry vs. Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa

Starting off, it appears that after the Ian Garry and Layla Machado fiasco, the MMA community is not a huge fan of the Irishman. In addition to that Garry’s last three victories are based on decision. Looking at this a fan wrote, “The whole MMA world is rooting for Buckley.”

After Belal Muhammad‘s injury update, Ian Garry took to his socials to upload a video of himself talking about facing Shavkat Rakhmonov, “That fight [against Rakhmonov] excites me so much. I have nothing but respect for the dude. It’s purely out of I don’t want anyone to beat him before me. He’s 18-0, I’m 15-0, let’s go out there and put on a show.” In hopes that the promotion will book him for a fight against the undefeated Kazakh, however, it appears that Dana White would like to have Karamu Usman on the card against Rakhmonov, “Now it’s 100% confirmed that it’s gonna be Usman vs Shavkat for the interim title” Furthermore, another fan highlighted the same thing, “Usman vs Shavkat for the interim title”

More fans are rooting for Buckley after what he did to Stephen Thompson at UFC 307, however, getting past, Garry is no easy task considering that he is on a 19-fight winning streak, “If buckley can ko wonder boy he can definitely pull off something similar against ian” Well, despite his undefeated record, Ian Garry has been lacking any finishing power and this might have forced the UFC CEO Dana White to look for better options, “Dana decided to feed Ian to the wolves after his last performance.”

Last but not least, a fan finally expresses his sadness as Rakhmonov vs. Ian Garry couldn’t materialize, “I was waiting for Shavkat v Ian Garry for interim title.”

Ian Garry might have missed the opportunity to fight for the interim title but a victory against Buckley can propel him ahead in the rankings table, making him the number-one contender. Regardless, what’s your take on the hubbub? State your thoughts in the comments below.
