There was more to UFC 293 than Israel Adesanya‘s upset loss to Sean Strickland. The commentary team saw a new addition in the form of the first female commentator of the modern era, Laura Sanko. Her commentary was loved by many, as some hailed her as an appropriate replacement for Joe Rogan. However, certain sections of fans rejected that idea.
Joe Rogan, a mainstay of the UFC’s commentary team, did not travel to Sydney for UFC 293. He had previously mentioned that he does not want to travel as much as he did before. Furthermore, he also has podcasting duties which sometimes clash with his UFC role. But the promotion found his replacement for the international pay-per-view with their first female commentator. Let’s take a look at that front.

Laura Sanko debuted as a commentator at UFC 293
The UFC often calls up Michael Bisping, Paul Felder, and Dominick Cruz whenever the promotion holds events overseas. Moreover, Jon Anik, the play-by-play commentator, is often left in charge of leading the team with the assistance of Daniel Cormier, who acts as the color commentator. But this time it was different.

Dana White‘s promotion achieved a historic milestone during UFC 293. They appointed Laura Sanko, a former Invicta FC fighter and Contender Series broadcaster, as the first female commentator for a UFC PPV event.
Some fans enjoyed her commentary gig in Sydney and even suggested that she should replace Joe Rogan, who is the official mouthpiece of the promotion. However, other fans on Reddit did not entertain that idea. Let’s take a look at what they had to say.
Fans reject the idea of Sanko as the permanent replacement for Joe Rogan
The UFC fans on Reddit did not like the idea of a switch in the commentary team. In addition to mentioning how much Dana White values Joe Rogan, they also mentioned the 56-year-old will only leave the UFC when the president steps down.
- Dana would never replace Rogan. Rogan has that privilege to decide when he’ll leave the booth
- Even joe said it on JRE that his contract with the ufc ends whenever dana steps down.

Moreover, fans pointed out Rogan’s contribution during the time when UFC was banned in many states. He stuck with the promotion during those tough times. They believe that his partnership with Dana White is the reason why the promotion has gotten so big.

- Joe basically did the broadcasts for free during the “banned” years. So, yeah, he gets to decide when he’s done.
- As well as he should. Without Rogan or Dana, the UFC is not where it is today
They suggested that if somebody needs to be replaced, it’s Daniel Cormier. Besides, some fans stated that Joe Rogan’s commentary can wake a viewer if they get bored watching a fight.
- I’d replace DC wayy before Joe
- No we want to replace DC
- I always love hearing Joe yell though, if I ever daze off he’s sure to reel me back in

Joe Rogan is an invaluable member of Dana White’s promotion. He also shares a close bond with the president of the promotion. So, it is highly unlikely that he will get replaced. Instead, White may just keep both Rogan and Sanko as members of the commentary team with both being good at what they do. What do you think? Drop your comments below.
