The UFC 289 event did not skimp on action, delivering an intense fight card at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. However, the fight card did not bode well for Chris Curtis. ‘The Action Man’ faced yet another unfortunate setback as he suffered a headbutt for the second consecutive fight. In his bout against Nassourdine Imavov during the event’s prelims, an accidental clash of heads occurred in Round 2, resulting in the contest being declared a no-contest. The middleweight fight caused a significant split on Curtis’ face, causing a meltdown in the UFC world.

As doctors examined him, the 35-year-old repeatedly expressed his inability to see out of his eye. Despite his pleas, referee Jason Herzog demanded an immediate decision regarding the fight’s continuation. When Curtis failed to indicate readiness to continue, Herzog waved off the bout. This served both fighters’ disappointment, especially Curtis, who had already faced a similar situation in his previous fight against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 287.
