Currently, the former two-division champion is enjoying his time vacationing with his family, while recovering from a leg injury he suffered last year. However, amidst that, ‘The Notorious’ has hinted at a UFC return several times. But there has been no call on his opponent.
However, Cormier believes Nate Diaz is the best name McGregor could fight. But the fight is not guaranteed, as he also stated, ‘The Notorious’ might go for a top contender like Michael Chandler to quickly map his way back to the title.
In the recent episode of DC&RC, Cormier said, “I think Conor (McGregor) should fight Nate Diaz. I think that that is the fight in which they should wrap with. Conor vs. Nate, get that third fight done. Neither one of them have to go all the way back to 155.”
“They can fight at 170 and they still choose. Nate wants to fight Conor’s getting healthy. I think that’s the fight that makes sense for Conor McGregor. Who I believe Conor McGregor is going to fight, though, is Michael Chandler,” he added.
“Because I think that the call out that Chandler gave in the middle of the octagon last time was enough to make Conor get on alert and say, ‘I beat this guy. I’m right back into title contention,” Cormier concluded.
Conor McGregor: More on his UFC return
Earlier, ‘The Notorious’ hinted that he wants to fight for the welterweight title against Kamaru Usman. Given McGregor’s records, he has fared well in the 170lbs division. Also, his star status might make the promotion give him this fight.

Also, as aforementioned, McGregor has a 2-1 record in welterweight. Hence, Nate Diaz seems a viable opponent for him. The latter is waiting for his last fight on his contract and this trilogy could make a blockbuster pay-per-view, which will benefit both him and the UFC as well.

Another good opponent for the Irish star could be the number 5 ranked lightweight fighter, Michael Chandler, who called him out at UFC 274. A win in this fight will help McGregor leapfrog the division.

All in all, the pay-per-view star of the promotion has plenty of options on his plate. However, he and the UFC will just have to make it official.
