Daniel Cormier Claims Khamzat Chimaev Can Surpass Conor McGregor in One Aspect in UFC – “This May Be the Guy”

Fans know Khamzat Chimaev for his exceptional fighting style. Some of his biggest highlights include man-handling and rad-dolling his opponents as he wishes to. With that in mind, UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier believes that he can do something that Conor McGregor could never do.

After months and months out of action, Khamzat Chimaev will return to the Octagon at UFC 294. The event, which will be held in Abu Dhabi, will have ‘Borz’ going head-to-head against Paulo Costa. It will be his first fight in the middleweight division. Similarly, Daniel Cormier and Ryan Clark were reviewing and talking about some of the best non-champion fighters, and the former double champion shared his opinion about the undefeated Swedish fighter.

‘DC’ made his thoughts clear about Chimaev. He, and even Ryan Clark, believe that ‘Borz’ is currently the best fighter on the roster who is not currently a champion in the UFC. I think the best fighter that’s not holding the championship right now [is] Khamzat Chimaev.” Moreover, Cormier also praised Chimaev’s fighting style.

The discipline of Mixed Martial Arts has undergone significant evolution throughout the years. Consequently, numerous pioneers in fighting have emerged, including Royce Gracie, Georges St-Pierre, and Mark Coleman. Similarly, Daniel Cormier posits that Khamzat Chimaev has the potential to become another one of these distinguished fighters.

“This kid is going to redefine what fighting is… I think that in the right matchups at 185, this is a guy [who can win the] championship,” said the Hall of Famer. He also believes that there is one aspect in which Chimaev could surpass Conor McGregor.

‘The Notorious’ has been one of the most successful fighters in the history of the UFC. He was the promotion’s first-ever two-division simultaneous champion and is still one of the biggest draws in the sport. However, he has never been the pound-for-pound champion. That is what makes Daniel Cormier believe that Khamzat Chimaev can be the one to do that. He said, “This may be the guy. Conor always talked about it. I think Khamzat Chimaev may make it a reality and he could hold a championship at 205 pounds as he gets older.”

Furthermore, Daniel Cormier also stated that the Swedish fighter’s style and his abilities at the Octagon can make him a champion, not only at light heavyweight but also at heavyweight. “I think that with this kid’s fighting style, his ability, he could win at light and he could at heavy. He is the definition of pound-for-pound,” said the former champion.
