The true African debate is still going on between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya. The matter has received so much attention from other UFC fighters as well. Du Plessis once questioned the African identities of Israel Adesanya, Kamaru Usman, and Francis Ngannou. All three have won the UFC championship. According to du Plessis, none of their belts came to Africa, as they don’t live or train in Africa. On the other hand, ‘Stillknocks’ is someone who was born and raised in Africa. He still continues to live and train there.

When the UFC middleweight champion, Adesanya, learned of du Plessis remarks, he became highly upset. Being someone who takes a lot of pride in his African heritage, Adesanya was offended. The debate confused some of the UFC fighters, including Daniel Cormier. Cormier found it difficult to take sides, as he lacked clarity in the matter. Later, UFC commentator Joe Rogan sat down to explain the history behind the debate. It’s only after listening to Rogan that Cormier understood why the whole matter made ‘Stylebender’ upset.

In a video uploaded to Daniel Cormier’s YouTube channel, he detailed how Rogan helped him understand the African debate in a better way. He said, “Rogan sat back down because Joe just has like this all his knowledge, just like sport. He immediately sits down go what was that all about, he goes, ‘Dricus is like Dutch and the Dutch colonists took over Africa and apartheid’ and he just went into this whole thing and then he pulls up his phone and gives me like a quick breakdown.'”

Talking further on the same topic, DC added, “I screen grab it and send it to my group message.Cormier later went on to say that a lot of history is intertwined with the issue; hence, it took him time to have a deep understanding of the debate.
