Alexander Volkanovski is the current pound-for-pound king of the UFC. The former rugby player won the UFC featherweight championship back in 2019 by defeating Max Holloway. But, his recent fight against lightweight champion Islam Makhachev saw his popularity explode. ‘
Volk’ went up a weight class to take on the Dagestani. Although he lost, his willingness to move up and his performance against Makhachev, especially on the ground, impressed fans and experts alike. Chael Sonnen too is impressed and thinks that the Australian is the scariest fighter in UFC history, even more than Sonnen’s old rival and the arguable MMA G.O.A.T Jon Jones. And this is why Holloway has been given credit by Sonnen ahead of his fight against Korean Zombie at UFC Fight Night 225 in Singapore this week.

Chael Sonnen thinks no one calls out Volkanovski
Sonnen, in a video on his YouTube channel, called Alexander Volkanovski the most feared fighter in UFC history. He stated that no fighter, except former featherweight champion Max Holloway had called out the 34-year-old.
“Alex Volkanovski is the most feared fighter in UFC history. That’s not just an opinion, I’m looking at it — nobody calls him out…You can back over time and find where Max Holloway was coming right at him, but he should. Max Holloway before this Volkanovski incident was the best Featherweight ever. Max was so good they were gonna move him up and have him take on Khabib,” Sonnen said.
He pointed out that Holloway was so good that he was considered the greatest lightweight of all time and was speculated to move up to lightweight and take on Khabib Nurmagomedov, and did fight Dustin Poirier there. Chael felt Holloway, who had lost all three fights against ‘Alexander the Great’, was hard done by the judges in the second fight, which ‘Uncle Chael’ thought the Hawaiian won.

Sonnen thinks ‘Volk’ scarier than Jon Jones
Sonnen also said that Volkanovski was even scarier than Jon Jones. Jones is widely considered the greatest to have ever set foot in the octagon, especially after he moved up to heavyweight and defeated Ciryl Gane for the title after having dominated the light heavyweight division for a decade.
This has never happened. As great as Jon Jones’ career was, I can think of people all along that were calling him out. You’re looking at one,” the 46-year-old told the audience.

Sonnen, who had once taken on Jones for the light heavyweight title at UFC 159, pointed out that plenty of fighters, including him and Alexander Gustafsson had called out Jones. This, according to ‘The Bad Guy’ is why he calls ‘Volk’ even scarier than Jones. Do you agree with Chael that Volkanovski is the scariest fighter in UFC history?
