A victory for an underdog in Manchester! Belal Muhammad put on a performance of a lifetime against Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC 304. At 36 years old, and after eight years of joining the promotion, he finally claimed the welterweight gold. However, that win appeared not to have sunk in for a few people, as Daniel Cormier made a slight error, that prompted hilarious reactions from fans.

With a +220 odds, there wasn’t much of a fanfare surrounding Belal Muhammad’s chances to beat Leon Edwards, who had dispatched the likes of Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington as champion. But MMA is a funny sport and anything can happen, and that’s exactly what went down in the UFC 304 headliner, with Muhammad meaning a unanimous decision victory. Thereafter, ‘Remember the Name’ had a small conversation with Daniel Cormier, who still had Edwards as champion in his mind.

“Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the welterweight champion Leon ‘Rocky’ Edwards. Oh, sorry! Belal Muhammad, Belal Muhammad,” said Daniel Cormier at the end of the post-fight interview. The new champion was taken aback by that and approached ‘DC’ about it. But the Hall of Famer, realizing his mistake, would apologize to Muhammad and laud his performance.

The UFC fans did not let this mistake slide so easily. Hence, they shared some reactions, with some shots aimed at Daniel Cormier, and some shots aimed at the self-proclaimed ‘first Palestine UFC champion’, Belal Muhammad. Here’s what they had to say.

Fans find the mistake Daniel Cormier made announcing the new champion amusing

The first thing fans did was have some fun with that goof-up from Daniel Cormier, with multiple jibes aimed at the welterweight champion Belal Muhammad’s nickname. A couple of fans stated, “And in that very moment, DC forgot the name,” and “DC actually forgot the name,” reacting to that mistake.

Daniel Cormier’s slip of the tongue made Conor McGregor‘s slated comeback opponent, Michael Chandler, give his take on what went down. He tweeted, Even [Daniel Cormier’s] brain was confused… but this is the game we chose,” suggesting that things could get confusing sometimes. A lot of people are talking about the timing of the show, and by the time UFC 304 ended, it was past 5 AM. That could have been a factor for Cormier’s slip-up, too. “It’s 5am. So I’ll let that pass.” However, fans kept taking jibes at Belal Muhammad.

Apparently, Muhammad’s wrestling-heavy performance appeared to be a boring one for the viewers. An X user said, “cant blame him, belal put the arena to sleep,” claiming that it caused Daniel Cormier’s mistake on air. They would also speculate about both having some beef that we may not know, leading another fan to state, “Did he do it intentionally?! There’s a chance.” In the end, the only thing fans agreed on was that it was “a very uncomfortable moment lol,” as one of them pointed out.
