Dustin Poirier is looking for his next challenge. He has already achieved everything that he could in the lightweight division except UFC gold. Recently, ‘The Diamond’ teased a move up to the welterweight division after his KO loss at UFC 292. Following that, Vicente Luque has offered to fight him and he wants that fight to take place in the December PPV, which could also see the return of Conor McGregor.

Vicente Luque recently made a triumphant return to the Octagon a year after a severe medical predicament. He defeated Rafael dos Anjos via a unanimous decision win at UFC Vegas 78. Following his win, he called out Dustin Poirier for ‘The Diamond’s first welterweight fight. Now, in a recent interview, ‘The Silent Assassin’ stated a match between him and Poirier would be a great fight.

Luque appeared in an interview with TMZ recently and mentioned that the one fight he’s looking forward to is against Dustin Poirier. He stated that Poirier is a big name in the UFC and thinking about fighting the former interim champion exciteed him. Luque said, “If I have a name that I could point out that is not in the division it’s Dustin Poirier, just because he is a big name. He is that exciting fight.”

Furthermore, ‘The Silent Assassin’ believes that his fighting style will reciprocate well with Poirier’s style. This is one of the reasons why he is excited about the idea of fighting him. “I feel like it would be a super exciting fight… because our styles match up pretty good.” Moreover, Luque has even suggested a timeline for the fight.

Luque wants ‘The Diamond’ on Conor McGregor’s undercard

‘The Silent Assassin’ has proposed a date for the fight against Dustin Poirier if the UFC goes ahead and books the fight. He wants to fight ‘The Diamond’ in December this year. He is ready for it. Luque said, “So if he’s down, I’m down. December, we can line that up.”

Incidentally, Conor McGregor is also rumored to return in the same month, presumably at UFC 296. Hence, Vicente Luque may have just hinted to fight on that undercard.

Conor McGregor and his former rival Dustin Poirier are two of the most popular fighters in the UFC. As such, there might be a chance that Dana White would prefer to end the year on a high by making both fights for UFC 296. Nothing has been finalized yet and we will have to wait until the UFC makes an official announcement.
