Deiveson Figueiredo opens up about the car crash in Brazil

Deiveson Figueiredo might just be one of the luckiest people alive right now after narrowly escaping a major tragedy. Earlier today in Brazil, the former UFC flyweight champion was reportedly driving when a woman in another car crashed into him at full speed, causing his vehicle to flip multiple times.

Despite the horrific accident, Figueiredo miraculously walked away without any serious injuries. After confirming he was safe, the former champ decided to let everyone know what happened. Soon after, he uploaded a video of the destroyed car on his Instagram and addressed his fans about the entire situation.

‘Deus da Guerra’ wrote in the caption, “Thank God for the deliverance. I had an accident today. I was following on Quintino Bocaiuva Street, going towards Gentil Bitencount. A lady at high speed, apparently seemed to be on the run, emerged from a secondary street, named Caripuna hitting the middle of my vehicle, doing the car that I had flipped over several times.”

Now, if you look at how the car flipped, it’s clear how dangerous the situation could’ve been if things had gone worse. Luckily, Figueiredo escaped a tragic fate, but not everyone is that fortunate. Back in 2021, former UFC fighter Frank Camacho had to withdraw from his fight against Matt Frevola at UFC 263 after getting injured in a car accident in Los Angeles.

With that in mind, Deiveson Figueiredo already has a history of injuries — most notably his painful knee injury that occurred at UFC Des Moines vs Cory Sandhagen. So, if the Brazilian had taken another accidental hit to that same knee, he could’ve been sidelined for a long time before stepping into the cage again. That said, since the ‘Deus da Guerra’ is safe, let’s see when he could actually make his next fight.

When will ‘God of War’ return to UFC Octagon?  And who will he face next?

On October 11th, Deiveson Figueiredo edged out Montel Jackson at UFC Fight Night: Oliveira vs. Gamrot. After securing a strong victory in front of his home crowd, the former UFC flyweight champion didn’t hesitate to call out the 135 lbs kingpin, Merab Dvalishvili, for a potential showdown. However, that dream might need a little more time to come true.

Figueiredo just returned to the win column after dropping two straight losses, so he’ll likely need to face a few contenders and build a win streak before earning a title shot. To do that, the former 125lbs kingpin could take on Mario Bautista, who recently lost to Umar Nurmagomedov at UFC 321, or face Song Yadong, who currently doesn’t have a fight booked. Particularly, a clash with the Chinese could make for an exciting match.

As for when he might return, since the former champ fought in October, a February card next year, possibly the UFC event in Australia under Paramount+, headlined by Alexander Volkanovski, would make perfect sense for his comeback. On that card, A fight against Yadong or Bautista would be a great fit. Also, Figueiredo could headline one of the UFC Fight Night events early next year.

That said, let’s hope Figueiredo stays safe and healthy so we can see him back in the Octagon next year—and for many more years to come.
