Despite Animosity With Brazilians Since Jose Aldo Incident, Conor McGregor Breaks Character for UFC’s South American Star

The ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor, is known for having a rather strained relationship with Brazilian fighters. The Irishman began his professional fighting career in 2014 and has faced numerous Brazilian opponents throughout his career. Notably, he achieved his championship status by defeating the Brazilian fighter Jose Aldo.

Aside from that, McGregor has had a history of animosity towards individuals from Brazil. Despite the tumultuous connection with Brazilians, McGregor broke his demeanor and character to praise a Brazilian fighter and wish him luck in his upcoming fight.

‘Mystic Mac’ is well known across the world for his trash talks and mind game tactics that he plays against his opponents to get under their skin and promote his fights. Amidst this, he has been involved in some heated rivalries with Brazilian fighters in the past. such as Jose Aldo, Rafael dos Anjos, and Fabricio Werdum. He has insulted their country, their fans, and their skills, and even snatched Aldo’s belt at one point.

McGregor knocked out Aldo in 1just 13 seconds, thus securing his featherweight title. Since then he challenged Anjos for the lightweight title, but dos Anjos pulled out due to injury. He also clashed with Werdum, who refused to fight in the same card as him. McGregor has since made peace with some of his Brazilian rivals, but he still uses his trash talk and mind games to hype up his fights.

Despite his animosity with them, McGregor, in his most recent endeavor, praised and wished Michael Pereira for his upcoming fight against Andre Petroski. He took to his Instagram handle to add a story about Michael Pereira. He quoted it as: “And last but definitely not least, the dancing Brazilian assassin, Pereira in ufc”

Conor McGregor in his quest to taunt Jose Aldo before their match took it too far. McGregor did not hold back when he faced Aldo in 2015, McGregor insulted Aldo’s country, culture, friends, and courage in a series of verbal attacks. The aftermath was an enraged Brazilian audience.

One of the most offensive slurs by McGregor was that he claimed that he would invade Aldo’s favela on his horseback and kill anyone who wasn’t fit for work. He referred to Aldo as a little skinny Brazilian from the favela who was too afraid to fight him.

McGregor even went as far as mocking Aldo’s belt and claiming it as a toy and that he would snatch it from him. He taunted Aldo for pulling out of their first scheduled fight due to a rib injury and said he had a bruised rib from laughing so hard at him. He disrespected the Brazilian flag by throwing it on the ground and wiping his feet on it during a press conference. But the recent developments have been refreshing indeed!
