MMA fans and pundits have started making their picks for a possible Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall encounter, which seems to be the fight Dana White is planning to go forward with. Recently, former light heavyweight champion, Jamahal Hill, who got a shout-out during UFC 309 weekend from ‘Bones’ as a potential opponent, gave his verdict on which heavyweight will come out on top, putting a hefty sum on the line.

Jamahal Hill will return to action at UFC 311 after losing his chance to reclaim the light heavyweight title after falling to Alex Pereira by a knockout. He’s expected to take on another former champion, Jiri Prochazka, who tasted defeat twice against ‘Poatan’ in Los Angeles. While addressing his upcoming bout against ‘The Czech Samurai,’ Hill answered that all-important Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall question, claiming that he’s willing to put more than a couple of million dollars into the fight who heads into the fight as the underdog.

“If I had a $3 million bet, who would I bet for – Tom Aspinall versus Jon Jones?… Who’s the underdog? [chuckles]. [He will bet on] whoever the dog is,” Jamahal Hill told ‘Inside Fighting’. Well, if we look at what the oddsmakers have to say, they’ve listed Tom Aspinall as the -135 favorite and Jon Jones as the +115 underdog. It’s a surprising pick from the former champion, as Aspinall has stood out as the most favored guy to win this heavyweight clash.

But before Tom Aspinall came into the fold, there were talks about Jon Jones vs. Francis Ngannou being the biggest heavyweight fight in MMA. So who does the Cameroonian-French star believe will come out on top? Well, the oddsmakers might have Jones as the underdog, but Ngannou believes the undisputed heavyweight champion doesn’t need to fight the Briton given that he’s already cemented his legacy in the sport.

Tom Aspinall and Francis Ngannou aren’t the only ones looking to secure a fight against Jon Jones; ‘Sweet Dreams’ Hill also wants in on it. In fact, the former 205-pound champ revealed that Jones was the first fighter that he had in mind to fight when he joined the UFC.

Jamahal Hill also wants to fight Jon Jones

Jamahal Hill was absolutely surprised when Jon Jones took his name as someone he wanted to step inside the Octagon with. During the interview mentioned above, he revealed that ever since he found himself under the bright lights of the UFC, he’s been reeling to take ‘Bones’ name while having the camera on his face. Hence, to get a shout-out from arguably the greatest athlete to ever compete in MMA, Hill believes that he’s right on track when it comes to his MMA career.

That was the first name that came out of my mouth whenever they put a UFC camera in front of me. So for him to say that now – to me – lets me know that I’m doing the right things,” Jamahal Hill added. Many members of the UFC community wrote him off after his loss to Alex Pereira, who’s on a run of a lifetime. Maybe the positive nod from Jon Jones could change the opinion of the people regarding the Chicago native, who climbed the ranks through the Contender Series.

Well, Jon Jones wants to get something out of fighting Tom Aspinall because, according to him, it’s the interim champion who needs the fight more than him. For Jamahal Hill, however, it’s about getting through Jiri Prochazka first, and maybe Jones decides to do the “random fights” he wants against ‘Sweet Dreams’ in the future.
