Recently, Jorge Masvidal’s unexpected collaboration raised eyebrows among fans. ‘Gamebred’ recently made an appearance on the B.S. podcast hosted by controversial YouTuber and boxer, Jake Paul. This shocked all fighting fans as Masvidal and Paul have a history of animosity and trash talks.

At one time, there were heavy rumors and speculations about a boxing fight between the two. Now, Jorge Masvidal is retired from MMA after his last UFC 287 bout against Gilbert Burns. The former UFC fighter is now a full-time fight promoter, heading the ‘Gamebred Promotions’. Having had the experience of being a fighter and a promoter, Masivdal understands the intricacies of fighters’ pay better than most others. In the podcast, Masvidal delved into this issue and gave some interesting opinions about it.

Firstly, Masvidal started out by praising UFC’s main man, Dana White. Despite acknowledging past differences, Masvidal expressed gratitude towards White, highlighting the opportunities and financial success the organization has brought him. He even went ahead to admit a bit of bias towards White.

“I mean I got nothing but good stuff to say about Dana. Though our relationship wasn’t always the best in the beginning. But I got nothing good stuff to say because he’s allowed me to create so much money, so much publicity, marketing all this stuff. He’s helped me out tremendously you know. I’m biased. I’m not the right person to ask because I’m like a Dana candidate.”

At the same time, the former BMF champion did not shy away from voicing his support for increased fighter pay. He emphasized that fighters in the top rankings should not have to work additional jobs to make ends meet. Moreover, Masvidal advocated for fighters within the top 15 to be financially secure and covered by their earnings from fights, even without sponsorships.

“More money for the fighters because it’s a f*cking tough job. You shouldn’t be in the top ten having to f*cking work at Walmart or something. If you’re in the top 15 already you should be set, you’re making enough money per fight whether you have sponsors or not that all your bills are covered.”

Furthermore, ‘Gamebred’ drew a comparison between the pay structures in boxing and the UFC. He shed light on the early struggles of boxers, highlighting that they often face financial challenges until their 30th professional fight. In contrast, Masvidal commended the UFC for providing relatively substantial compensation to fighters in the early and middle stages of their careers. However, he acknowledged the need for improvement in the upper echelons of fighter pay, where some athletes feel overlooked.

“In boxing, you don’t get paid sh*t until your 30th professional fight. The only way they get famous is by fighting and they don’t get paid sh*t in the beginning. The UFC pays guys at the beginning great and at the midstage great. Where we need like helping is in that upper gap that’s been thrown down for a minute.”
