In the interview, Chandler claimed that he still believes that he will eventually fight for the UFC lightweight title against Islam Makhachev or whoever is holding the 155 title. The former Bellator champ goes on to say, “Whether it’s Islam, whether it’s Gaethje, whether it’s Charles, whoever ends up with the title after I smash Connor, You know, I will be working my way toward that.”

He goes back to the topic of fighting McGregor at 185 pounds after he talks about his aspirations of fighting for the lightweight title. He states, “Now, with that being said, I like being 190 pounds where I am right now, fighting at 170 would be really nice. Fighting at 185 is basically just us not cutting any weight.”

Michael Chandler states how a move to 185lbs won’t change his frame saying, “down to a certain weight class, I will stay the same frame, the same stature, same muscle mass, continue to work on cardio… I’m going to eat the same I’m just gonna eat a little bit more and not be operating on a calorie deficit.” He concludes by saying that his camp against McGregor would be the best camp of his life.

Michael Chandler seems to believe that he has the upper hand going into the fight against Chandler. Given the gruesome injury McGregor is returning from, also taking into account his long layoff, it’s not surprising to see the former Bellator champion coming in as confident as he is. But if the Irishman indeed loses, what could be next for him?
