Fans are no strangers to the controversies surrounding Dana White‘s latest project, the ‘Power Slap league’. After facing harsh criticism of the show’s format and the sport itself, the UFC President has continued to double down despite all the slander thrown at him. The 53-year-old had even made some wild claims regarding his promotional duties with respect to UFC and the new show. To the surprise of fans, White, during the post-fight press conference after UFC Fight Night 218, laid down some numbers to prove that despite garnering bad reviews, the ‘sport’ was still hugely popular.

His claim was largely based on social media views on Power Slap’s channels. Shockingly, the data that White talked about were immensely massive compared to NFL and even the UFC itself.

When questioned about his views on the show’s reactions and how it was faring, White‘s response took everyone by surprise. As per the UFC president, the Power Slap had raked in 10 million views on average on TikTok. He put that into perspective by comparing it to the channels of other sports, including the UFC itself.

“The social media and digital is insane. I don’t know if you guys have looked at that but on TikTok, you know, we averaged 10 million views per post on TikTok. And to put it into perspective, the WWE does 1.5 million, UFC does 770, 000, and the NFL does 545 000. We’re pulling 10 million.” Claimed the UFC president.

Considering that the sport relies on shock value, along with the fact that the format seems to fit perfectly for shorter videos, it is not surprising that it had exploded on TikTok. But undoubtedly the numbers are impressive when taken into context with the other promotions.

The 53-year-old then went on to state that it was able to hold on to almost half of the audience from AEW, whereas other major shows seem to have failed in doing that.

“…incredibly popular shows like Family Guy, American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, Young Sheldon, as soon as the show’s over [AEW], drops off into the abyss. We hold 47 to 50 percent of the AEW crowd and we’re number two every night with men on all of cable behind the NBA. So, you know, considering the demographic for that thing is probably more digital.” were Dana White‘s exact words.

Power Slap has clearly been one of the most controversial topics of 2023. Along with the hate, even brain doctors had come out earlier saying individuals competing in the sport were bound to get serious brain trauma. If all these were not enough, Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev too chimed in, claiming that the UFC did not do enough for his upcoming fight at UFC 284 and that White was instead busy with his pet project.

Despite all of this, Dana White clearly didn’t seem disturbed by any of such allegations laid on him. Although he might take respite from the TikTok numbers, the long-time UFC president clearly understands the controversies are here to say for the time being.
