Aljamain Sterling has found support for his UFC 300 performance from the fans and UFC CEO Dana White! The former UFC bantamweight champion made his featherweight debut against Calvin Kattar at the landmark UFC event. While the fight was a showcase of Sterling’s grappling ability, the fans at the arena found the affair to be lacking that thrill, as they booed his performance inside the Octagon.

Another shocking development came as Joe Rogan didn’t interview the victorious Sterling as is standard practice in the UFC. It was later speculated that the TV timing could be a reason behind the lack of a post-fight interview. Nevertheless, in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, ‘The Funkmaster’ revealed that he was grateful for Dana White’s statements on his performance.

He stated, “I didn’t expect him to say that. He easily could’ve been like, ‘Well, we all know how a Sterling fight goes’. He could’ve easily said that and then people would’ve just sh*t all over me again. I thank him for that. That was cool. That’s all I ever wanted, for him to kind of atleast make me somewhat of an ally”

The statement has drawn a flurry of reaction from the fans who have now come out to defend Sterling’s performance, standing in stark contrast to the crowd’s reaction during the event. As such, let’s take a look at what the community had to say about ‘The Funkmaster’, his recent statements about Dana White’s support, and his performance at UFC 300!

Others pointed out that the blame for the fight should also be placed on Calvin Kattar as he didn’t do much to impose his gameplan on Sterling

“I mean y’all should be shaming kattar if anything for the amount of punches he threw”

Some pointed out that his performance is a testament to Sterling’s skills that has seen him only lose once in his past 5 fights inside the Octagon and with a move up in weight, he still managed to nullify his opponent’s best attributes

“You can b*tch and moan about sterlings performance, but the fact is that he fought a top 10 featherweight in his debut and made it out without so much as a scratch on him. Put some respect on his damn skill set, the man is very very good at fighting.”

‘The Funkmaster’s use of a WWE-reminiscent move was also pointed out by the fans

“The powerbomb was a badass moment.”

While others drew parallels between his style and former welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, who also used to get flak from the fans for his patient and wrestle-heavy style.
