From sharing a be͏er with Aquaman, Jason Momoa, during the Rugby World Cup final to facing unexpecte͏d challenges ͏at ͏UFC 296, his journey has been nothing short of eve͏ntful. Nevertheless, Du Plessis’s relationship with Rugby is not a new thing as the fighter was a player himself back in high school. Du Plessis not ͏only immersed himself in marti͏al arts during his school days but also actively participated in rugby. And throughout his schooling years, he passionate͏ly supported the Springboks, South Africa’s national rugby team.

Thereafter, while attending the University of Pretoria, he initially pursued a degree in agricultural economics. However,͏ in his final year, he chose to abandon his academic path to embark on a career ͏in mixed martial arts.

The middleweight contender ͏has had a deep connection with rugby, attributing it to his upbringing in South Africa, where the ͏sport has been an integral part of his ͏life. His profound admiration for the rugby players reflects the genuine respect he holds for their skills and dedic͏ation.

“I’ve always been a big rugby guy. Massive, massive respect for professional rugby. I know quite a few of them. I’ve trained with them at my gym. Some of them came for some wrestling exercises – great for rugby,” Du Plessis disclosed to Big Jim during an exclusive interview for RugbyPass TV.

Moreover, ‘StillKnocks’ also disclosed to Big Jim his love for rugby and discussed why his country is so deeply involved in the sport.

While talking to Big Jim in Pretoria, Du Plessis explained that Rugby had been in his blood since the start of his life. Being a South African citizen is directly correlated to being a fan of Rugby as per Du Plessis.

He further emphasized added, “As South Africans, we are very very passionate when it comes to sport. Make no mistake, when our teams don’t perform, South Africans get angry. But at the end of the day we’ll always be watching and supporting our guys”

The fighter further emphasized that his matchup with Strickland is like a world cup for him “A Rugby World Cup is massive, and me fighting for a world title, it’s massive. It’s almost a build up like a World Cup final for me, and the whole country is getting behind me. I’m a Springbok, just in a different sport,” Du Plessis further added. ‘Stillknocks’ was there when the South African primary team Springbrooks won the Rugby World Cup.
