The time for voting has begun, as the UFC is asking its fans to choose their picks from the best fight moments of 2024. One of the most awaited categories is the best submission of 2024. Despite a dozen brilliant submissions this year, only four could make it as the final submissions. So, who made the list? Well, a few favorites such as Islam Makhachev and Dricus Du Plessis made it.

In fact, the very first on the list was the submission where Islam Makhachev defeated Dustin Poirier via a D’arce choke at UFC 302. The second on the list is Dricus Du Plessis’ submission win over Israel Adesanya at UFC 305. Third on the list is Kayla Harrison defeating Holly Holm at UFC 300, and last but not least, Paddy Pimblett’s submission win over Bobby Green at UFC 304. It is a tough one to choose, right?

However, the ones getting the most love online are Islam Makhachev’s submission of ‘The Diamond’ and Paddy Pimblett’s flawless triangle choke that put Bobby Green to sleep the win in the first round. One notable submission shockingly missing from the list is Khamzat Chimaev’s stunning submission win over Robert Whittaker at UFC 308. After all, the submission was so effective that it broke the Australian’s teeth.

In fact, many were quick to voice their opinion that this submission should’ve made it to the list. As a result, the comment section became a battleground with many claiming that Islam Makhachev is the clear winner, while others stated that the UFC did Khamzat Chimaev dirty by not even choosing his submission as one of the list. So, what exactly are the fans from the fight world saying? Let’s find out!

The UFC leaves the fans divided between Islam Makhachev and Khamzat Chimaev

As soon as the list was made public, many were outraged by the fact that Khamzat Chimaev missed out despite his jaw-shattering submission of Whittaker. Even Paddy Pimblett voiced his dissatisfaction about it by claiming Makhachev clearly outdid Islam Makhachev in the submission game. He said, “Islam’s sub was good, but it’s just a D’Arce choke. I still think Khamzat’s was better.” Fans were divided too, with some voicing their clear support for the lightweight champion, while others picked the Chechen middleweight phenom, “You did Makhachev dirty.”, “TF! Makhachev not even on the list?”, “@khamzat_chimaev against Robert?????”, and, “Khamzat submitting Whittaker is the submission of the year, and it’s not even on the list.”

However, not everyone agreed with the opinion. Islam Makhachev’s submission of Dustin Poirier was a thing of beauty. At a grand stage against one of the UFC’s greatest fighters ever, the Dagestani fighter pulled off a series of maneuvers to finally set up and sink in the D’Arce choke. To make things even more interesting, it took place in the latter half of the fight, when the two were clearly exhausted.

What’s your perspective on:

Did UFC snub Khamzat Chimaev, or is Islam Makhachev's submission truly unbeatable this year?

Have an interesting take?

So, hitting such a submission was no easy feat, especially in the 5th round, and the fans let this be known in the comments. They wrote, “Islam Makhachev leg swing to guillotine transitioned to Darce choke in the championship round, title fight, is a masterclass.”, “The moves leading up to Islam submitting Dustin was impressive,”, “Islam with never seen in UFC leg swing transitioned to Darce choke from guillotine in 5th round”, and, “Ngl, Islam’s whole sequence to get the choke was out of this world 🙌.”

Well, it seems like the clear winner for now would be Islam Makhachev since Khamzat Chimaev’s submission did not even make it to the list. Makhachev, too, knows that he would most likely win; as a result, he took to his Instagram story to urge his fans to vote for him by writing, “Choose the Best Submission of the Year.” But what do you think? Who will win the submission of the year? Are you disappointed by Chimaev’s omission? Let us know in the comments.
