The former two-division champions of UFC Daniel Cormier and the famous MMA journalist Ariel Helwani locked horns on social media. Recently, Daniel Cormier was present in New York for one of the biggest UFC events this year. However, the UFC veteran didn’t visit Helwani’s studio.

According to Helwani, Cormier stabbed him in the back as he didn’t break bread with him. It hurt him as he believed Cormier to be his best friend. Hence, Helwani kept a condition and claimed to remove Cormier’s picture from his studio if he didn’t show in an hour.

So Helwani removed Cormier’s picture from his studio wall and instead hung a picture of famous sports analyst Pat McAfee, who he claims to be his new best friend. However, this didn’t sit well with the UFC veteran.

Daniel Cormier took to Twitter to share his thoughts on Helwani’s action. He wrote, “This is crazy! I wish someone would pull the (knife) out of my back, my front, my neck. Everywhere I didn’t think this level of betrayal was possible to me!”

Meanwhile, Helwani was unfazed by this and accused Cormier of playing the victim as he was in his hometown meeting everyone else and snubbed his old friend, i.e. Ariel Helwani.

He wrote, “Typical Cormier trying to play victim to divert from the fact that he made time for EVERYONE and hugged EVERYONE last week when he was just minutes away from me. There’s only one victim here, Daniel, and it’s your old friend, Foxhole Helwani.”

This banter between the old friends gave a hilarious moment to the UFC fans. However, Cormier is recently making headlines not only for his banter with Helwani, but more.

Daniel Cormier Says Justin Gaethje for the Title Next

Previously, the UFC veteran Daniel Cormier’s teammate and friend Islam Makhachev secured a stunning first-round win over Dan Hooker at UFC 267. This victory marked Makhachev’s ninth straight win in the UFC.

Considering his run in the division, DC backed the Dagestan native next for the lightweight title. However, Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler were also in the picture. Hence, this didn’t sit well with ‘The Highlight’ and he took a shot at Cormier.

However, DC has now changed his tone after Gaethje’s amazing performance and victory over Chandler at UFC 268. The UFC veteran now believes that Gaethje should be next in line for the title shot against the winner from Dustin Poirier vs Charles Oliveira bout.

Cormier, on his official YouTube channel, lauded Gaethje’s performance and said, “Last night he went out there and did what he had to do in order to ensure that he keeps his championship fight.”

“Because he fought Michael Chandler and beat Michael Chandler a very trained, well-prepared Michael Chandler. So hats off to Justin Gaethje. And honestly, I believe that he will be the guy to fight for the belt next.”

As of now, Oliveira will look to defend his lightweight gold against Poirier at UFC 269. And the winner will probably defend his title against ‘The Highlight’ next.
