A career MMA fighter, Tony Ferguson, just shocked the world at Misfits 22 in his first fight since departing the UFC earlier in January. The 41-year-old broke his six-year winless drought with a solid technical knockout victory against TikTok star Salt Papi on his boxing debut. The whole fight world watched as Ferguson became emotional after the fight ended.
Misfits 22 also showcased an MMA fight between Dillon Danis and Warren Spencer, and as some people expected, including Tony Ferguson, the former Bellator star won in just 15 seconds with a guillotine choke. ‘El Cucuy’ praised Danis, claiming that he’s in his good books, and people don’t really know who the 32-year-old really is as a person because of the talk online about his polarizing personality.
“It’s expected to be like [Danis’s 15-second win]. I mean, Danis is a gamer. I always told him, you know, we talked on Instagram. I just think some people are just a little bit misunderstood,” Tony Ferguson told MMA Fighting. Also, he gave the Misfits Boxing promotion their flowers, adding, “For people that are misunderstood, Misfits is the perfect place for us.”

Tony Ferguson would also make an appearance at the post-fight press conference, where Dillon Danis joined him before Darren Till joined them as well. The former UFC interim lightweight champion would echo the same sentiment as he did in the aforementioned backstage interview, and guess what? Both fighters even exchanged pleasantries, as ‘El Cucy’ appeared to overshadow Danis’s longstanding loyalty with MMA superstar Conor McGregor.

“I think some of us are just misunderstood, and I say that with open arms, and we found a house here in Misfits,” said Tony Ferguson, prompting Dillon Danis to congratulate him on his win. As he said, “I was happy to see Tony win,” Ferguson replied, “Likewise.” Meanwhile, the UFC legend also responded to people who counted him out in this fight with a defiant message.
Tony Ferguson’s message to his doubters
During another backstage media scrum, Tony Ferguson was asked about the people who doubted him ahead of his boxing debut. He headed into the fight as an underdog, so there were some people who didn’t think he’d be able to get past Salt Papi. But he did, and Ferguson seemed pretty happy, claiming that he was enjoying the fact that people got their predictions wrong. He’s been a fighter all his life, and ‘El Cucuy’ was happy to prove that he’s still got it at Misfits 22.

“I don’t know everybody who bet against me, I get they’re kicking their a– right now,” said Tony Ferguson.“Being real, being an underdog, you know, coming through here, being super nervous in the beginning of the camp and just trusting the process with my coaches and my cornerman… Came out here, did what we wanted to do. And it was a good reminder that who I am, and I’m a fighter.”
Tony Ferguson has claimed that he wants to go 2-0 in boxing, meaning that he wants another match, of course. But that depends on how much the promotion is willing to shell out for the former UFC star, given that he shone on his boxing debut. “Money talks and bulls–t walks” is what Ferguson has had to say about his next fight. Well, he seems to be enjoying his time in the promotion, but do you think he should fight an influencer next or should he take on a real professional fighter?
