Conor McGregor and Russia’s Khabib Nurmagomedov had one of the most heated rivalries in the UFC. This resulted in an extremely hyped battle in the octagon. However, prior to this fight too both the athletes took several digs at each other. One such dig included Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During their UFC 229 press conference, Nurmagomedov was asked how he felt looking at the Irish fighter click pictures with Putin at the World Cup 2018 final. Nurmagomedov answered, “It was great match, you know. And, how I feel? I don’t feel nothing, you know, because I never want to take pictures with someone, doesn’t matter it’s President.”

At that point, McGregor interrupted the Russian fighter and asked, “Are you disrespecting your President, Vladimir Putin?”

While Nurmagomedov responded with ‘no’, McGregor asked him the same question once again.

The undefeated fighter further tried to explain while McGregor laughed and sat back down. However, McGregor did not give Nurmagomedov the chance to explain himself. Instead, he went on to insult his opponent. In addition to this, ‘The Notorious’ also said that he comes from the ‘McGregor clan’, who stood and fought the ‘English Empire’.

However, ‘The Eagle’ wasn’t in the mood to back down and hence, unleashed his own questions to McGregor. He questioned McGregor about not speaking his native language. As a result, both the athletes got into a war of words.

Nurmagomedov went on to win the fight against McGregor through a submission. After the fight, he got the chance to meet Putin. He discussed his after-fight brawl with the President who was quite sympathetic about it.

However, when Putin and McGregor initially met during the World Cup, they shared an awkward moment. The Irish fighter put his hands on Putin’s shoulder and was told off by the security. Thus, this created a difficult moment.
