Colby Covington has been a lightning rod of controversy in recent years. But many condoned his actions due to the drama needed to sell fights. His latest atrocity however has drawn near unanimous disapproval including but not limited to one of the greatest to ever do it.

Alexander Volkanovski opened up about his thoughts on Covington as well as which fighter he would pick for the winner of the main event. It’s suffice to say that if Covington was looking to sell the fight and draw attention to the rivalry, he’s done it. But at what cost?

Alexander Volkanovski disgusted by Colby Covington’s comments

Alexander Volkanovski is one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC. The featherweight champion is about to defend his title against Illia Topuria at UFC 298 and was present at the recent presser that included the likes of Sean Strickland, Sean O’Malley, and Marlon Vera. Here, he laid his thoughts about Covington bare.

“Obviously backing Leon,” Volkanovski told Caroline Pearce of TNT Sports. “Know Leon well and after some of Colby’s comments, I hope he gets his head punched in. So I’m looking forward to Leon knocking him out.” Perhaps the champs are siding together on this one with Leon Edwards defending his title against Covington at UFC 296.

But this conversation was not enough for ‘The Great’. He would go on to repost the story by TNT Sports and berate ‘Chaos’ once again through his Instagram account. “@colbycovington you’re a piece of shit!” he caption the story and perhaps, fighters like Sean Strickland would agree with him.

‘Tarzan’ himself called Covington’s comments a “c*nt” move during the same presser. The welterweight is receiving heat from multiple sources. Obviously, Edwards isn’t too happy with the comments either. Will he make Covington regret his words?

Will Covington regret angering Edwards?

The trash talker in Covington isn’t very likely to ever admit regretting offensive comments. However, he has clearly struck a nerve by implying that Edwards’ late father was in “hell”. The fighter was struck with a bottle of water and fans could clearly see a rather bright smirk on Covington’s face as if he finally got the reaction he wanted.

That bottle toss was a sign that ‘Chaos’ got under his opponents’ skin finally. Perhaps no line is too distant for Covington to cross if it means getting in his opponents’ head. However, will this be enough to break Edwards? We will find out rather soon at UFC 296. Volkanovski has made his pick already. Which fighter will you be picking for the winner? Let us know in the comments.
