Soccer is the biggest sport in the world by far. So if you are a star in soccer, chances are, you are a global superstar and have made a lot of money. And if you’re Patrice Evra, one of the greats, who was an integral part of Manchester United in its heyday, and captained France, you are pretty comfortably set for life. But there is just something about MMA that fascinates even the biggest sports stars, including Evra, who has signed with the PFL, and is set to make his debut on the PFL Europe Paris card on May 23 later this year.
Moreover, he has even called out his former rival, Luis Suarez, for a bout inside the cage. This naturally came as a surprise to many. But Evra has claimed that he “loves this game” and has been training with PFL knockout artist Cedric Doumbe since 2016. But UFC legend Michael Bisping is buying none of Evra’s claims.
“This guy, this footballer getting into MMA now. Remember when we say footballer in America, I don’t know where you guys are from, we’re talking soccer, right? They’re not exactly known for being the toughest guys. That’s why I never played a lot of football when I was a kid because they were p—-s,” Bisping said on his YouTube channel.

“I hated it, you know, when they get a little fake foul. And I know what they’re doing and they’re trying to game the system and they writhe around in agony, holding their knees. I didn’t like it, so yeah, and I’ll be honest, he doesn’t look like he can fight. And maybe I’m wrong. I’m basing that purely on the jawline. You want to look at someone’s jaw, you know what I’m saying,” he added.
Indeed, Evra, respectfully, has a pretty weak jawline. A strong jawline and cauliflower ears are major hallmarks of being a fighter. Usually, if you fight for any extended period of time, you will take hits to your jaw, which (not necessarily but usually) tends to streamline one’s jawline. In addition, fighters have to clench their jaws when fighting since they wear mouthpieces, which can also lead to strengthening of the jaw muscles over time.

To be fair to the Champions League winner, it isn’t necessarily true that you will have a strong jawline if you fight regularly, though. After all, a person’s jawline is determined by multiple variables, including genetics, a person’s muscle mass and body fat percentage, as well as the type of exercises they do. But the age thing is pretty fair criticism from Bisping. 43 years old, even for a world-class athlete like Evra, is perhaps a bit too late to make your MMA debut. But the biggest mystery remains! Who will the Man United legend face on debut? Luckily, Bisping had the perfect answer.

Michael Bisping has the perfect opponent for Patrice Evra’s MMA debut
“Hey, listen, if there’s one fight I would take, it’s against a 43-year-old former football player, yeah, who’s making his debut. One eye, no knees, bad neck f—ing let’s go slip us a million quid, your boy’s back,” ‘The Count’ laughed.

What’s your perspective on:
Is Michael Bisping right to doubt Evra's MMA debut, or is he underestimating a soccer legend?
Have an interesting take?
Bisping, of course, is joking here. But the former English UFC champion is indeed crazy enough to take that fight. After all, this is the same guy who fought the best fighters in the world, and even won the middleweight title. Remember! On 17 days’ short notice, no less, and with one good working eye! So, a 43-year-old former soccer player (whom he hates as a group) would by no means be a bridge too far for the 46-year-old UFC legend.
The more you think about it, the better the idea seems, even if Bisping said it in jest. After all, what better for Evra and the PFL than to have a fan-favorite, tough-as-nails MMA legend who isn’t in the best shape as his first opponent? What do you think about Michael Bisping’s thoughts on Patrice Evra’s MMA debut?
