As reported by Carlos Contreras Legaspi, ‘ESPN Deplores’ published an article speaking about the matchup. Vera vs Cruz is reportedly being targeted for August 13 as the UFC’s main event. Moreover, both the athletes are coming off recent wins. Cruz, who last fought in December 2021, has two consecutive wins. On the other hand, ‘Chito’ has three back-to-back wins.

However, it would not be surprising to see this fight materialize. After all, Vera called out the former bantamweight champion after his latest win over Rob Font.

So if this fight takes place, Marlon Vera would be fighting someone below his ranking. Nevertheless, many have been questioning if it is a good fight for the older boxer.

After UFC veteran Frankie Edgar lost against the Ecuadorian fighter via a brutal T/KO, people are worried Cruz could end up the same way.
Is Marlon Vera a good fight for Dominick Cruz?
In a previous interview, Dominick Cruz spoke about his ambition of winning the bantamweight title back. In that case, a win against a highly ranked opponent would put him quite close to a title fight. Hence, the matchup looks like a good fight for his aspirations.

He said (h/t MMA Junkie), “I’m coming back this year, and we’re winning the title. We are winning the title if not this year, the next year, but each fight is getting closer to that goal.”
However, Marlon Vera is in great form and if he manages to defeat Cruz, it could be one of the biggest wins in his career so far. Thus, the matchup looks like an interesting one for both fighters.
