O’Malley brutally knocked out Thomas Almeida in the 3rd round of their UFC 260 main card fight. It seems like a massive win on a high-profile card has increased his stock in front of the who’s who of the 135lbs division.

The bantamweight division is fully stacked up, a lot of contenders are gunning for the title. O’Malley is one of the contenders to have thrown his hat into contention for the strap in the wake of his latest triumph.

Cruz recently defeated Casey Kenney by way of split decision at UFC 259. Kenney is a teammate of O’Malley at the MMA lab, and it looks like Cruz has his eyes set on Kenney’s teammate.

All said and done, this seems like a splendid opportunity for The Dominator to find his way back to glory.

Chael Sonnen says Dominick Cruz wants Sean O’Malley next

Sonnen was covering the UFC 260 ESPN post-fight show with Michael Bisping. They pondered viable options for O’Malley going forward when Cruz sent him a text message saying that he wants to fight O’Malley next.

Sonnen can be heard saying, “Sean O’Malley. We were throwing out some matches and guys, I must confess, I don’t have my glasses on, I couldn’t quite see, but I believe Dominick Cruz just heard our piece and told us to throw his name into the O’Malley mix. I don’t have my glasses on, but Dominick told me something about O’Malley just now,”.

Sonnen continues, “Michael, I’ll tell you what he said. He wants the fight. He’s watching us right now, and he wants the fight.”

Bisping then asked Cruz to talk to Mick Maynard and Sean Shelby as nobody knows if Sean O’Malley wants that fight or not. He further says this fight needs to happen as it is a tremendous matchup for Saen O’Malley because it would raise his profile and also help Cruz get into the title picture soon.

The fight, if built properly, can be a mouthwatering prospect for UFC fans. Sean O’Malley is high on confidence after his stunning comeback victory over Almeida and would want to fight Cruz, who returned to form by defeating Casey Kenney after being humbled by Henry Cejudo previously.
