UFC 320 is around the corner, with Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev headlining a PPV together for a second time. As we get closer to the rematch, discussions about the next title contender for the light heavyweight championship are heating up. Who’s next? There are quite a few contenders that have come up, but an MMA insider believes that the opportunity may land in the hands of a former title contender, Dominick Reyes.

Dominick Reyes almost shocked the world in 2020 when he came close to being the first fighter to beat Jon Jones clean. But as well know, he lost that fight and then his career took a downward spiral. But now, he’s back in the winning column with a streak of three wins under his belt. Now, he is looking to give other contenders a run for their money, according to veteran journalist Ariel Helwani’s right-hand man, Eric Jackman.

Insider claims Dominick Reyes could move past Khalil Rountree Jr. and Jiri Prochazka

The string of three wins in a little over a year, according to Eric Jackman, has reinstated confidence in ‘The Devastator’. “He’s [Dominick Reyes] looked good in that win streak, too. He has looked fantastic,” Jackman stated on the Submission Radio podcast. He then shifted his focus towards the other contenders, Khalil Rountree Jr. and Jiri Prochazka, who are also competing on the same card as Alex Pereira and Magomed Ankalaev. Eric Jackman is convinced that the Dagestan native is not getting a rematch if he loses the rematch. This, in turn, will open the doors for Rountree Jr. and Prochazka, who have proven to Dana White that they will always deliver when inside the Octagon.

“If Alex is able to avenge the loss to Magomed, I don’t expect that Magomed gets a rematch. And then, you’re looking at probably like a Khalil or Jiri, who Alex has a ton of history with and has already beaten. So, I don’t think it’s impossible that these guys jump into the line, especially if it’s Alex,” Jackman further stated. “I’d give the edge to Jiri or Khalil because they’re the guys that have been fighting for the championships, and I think the UFC has kind of determined that they’re all action and somebody that they wouldn’t mind holding the belt.”

But then again, there’s Carlos Ulberg, who’s also on a massive 8-fight win streak. He’s taking on Dominick Reyes this weekend at UFC Perth, and Ariel Helwani’s right-hand man believes the winner of this fight could skip the line and earn a title fight. “If it’s Magomed, it’s definitely one of those two guys, right? I think you’d have to imagine that as Khalil or Jiri. But if you’re Carlos or Dominick, you’re one away… I think they’re in a great position,” Eric Jackman posited.

Well, Dominick Reyes is in the right place, and so is his upcoming opponent. However, the oddsmakers seem to have a different vision about how his fight at UFC Perth against Carlos Ulberg will end because the numbers are not in ‘The Devastator’s favor. Here’s what we know.

Reyes is the underdog against Carlos Ulberg

With just days to go for the UFC’s return to Down Under, the oddsmakers have revealed what they think of Dominick Reyes’s chances against Carlos Ulberg. Despite being a former title contender, the oddsmakers have listed ‘The Devastator’ as the underdog heading into UFC Perth. His odds are at +175 while the New Zealand star’s odds are at -227, as he’s been listed as the favorite to beat Reyes.

While the odds are interesting, it’s important to note that Dominick Reyes has three finishes to his name in his last three fights. When we take a look at Carlos Ulberg, he has 3 finishes in his last five fights. So, it doesn’t look like there is much to compare between their statistics. What matters is how the light heavyweight duo will fare on a big stage like headlining a Fight Night event all across the world.
