Chiesa was scheduled to face Li Jingliang at UFC 287 on April 8, 2023, in what promised to be a thrilling matchup. Unfortunately, Jingliang pulled out of the bout due to a spine injury, leaving Chiesa without an opponent. This cancellation was disappointing for Chiesa, as he had been preparing for the fight for months.

Kevin Lee accuses Michael Chiesa of ducking him

However, things took a strange turn when Kevin Lee claimed that Chiesa rejected a short-notice fight against him after Jingliang pulled out. Chiesa, however, was quick to respond to Lee‘s claims and denied that he had been offered a fight against Lee. In a statement to the media, Chiesa said that the proposed fight with Lee was not something that was offered to him directly. He went on to say that he would love to face Lee and silence him once and for all. However, he was not given the opportunity to do so.
