Russian featherweight Zabit Magomedsharipov became such a ‘what if’ when he announced his retirement. Highly touted and on a six-fight win streak, many considered Magomedsharipov a future UFC champion. Now, the 31-year-old has sent out a cryptic message that has got fans on their feet again.

In one of his recent Instagram posts, the 6’1″ Russian posted a picture and teased a return from retirement, saying, “Contracts are no longer the same, of course.”

In the comment section under Magomedsharipov’s post, fans reacted to his cryptic message. Needless to say, most of them were eager to see one of the most dynamic fighters ever to grace the octagon end his untimely retirement.

The announcement did not impress another fan who commented, “Dude quit the UFC one fight away from a title shot for god knows what reason and now we’re supposed to care? Foh.”

One fan wished for the Russian to return for his dream fight. He wrote, “Come back just once please, beat Yair then you can rest.”

Another saw the potential in Magomedsharipov and said, “Come back of course, could be the best of the best, it’s not too late.”

At the moment, there is no concrete news on Magomedsharipov returning to fighting, despite this teasing post from him. However, the doors may still be open for a return, as revealed by UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov in a recent interview.

In a recent interview with Red Corner MMA, after Eagle FC 51, “The Eagle” gave his take on Magomedsharipov. The former champion mentioned he is good friends with the retired featherweight and that they talk frequently.

However, Nurmagomedov added that they never discussed his friend’s retirement and said he thinks that Magomedsharipov left for personal reasons.

When asked if Magomedsharipov could return, the 29-0 athlete had a cheeky response. He said, “Unlike me, he didn’t promise his mother. If you pique his interest, anything is possible. 50/50.”
