Leon Edwards became the new welterweight champion of UFC in the most dramatic way inside the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, at UFC 278. It was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for fans present inside the arena. Fight fans witnessed an amazing display of skill from the British ‘Rocky.’ However, one more person responsible for this historic moment was Edwards’ coach, Dave Lovell.

It was evident that ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ dominated the British welterweight title challenger in the early rounds, and he almost lost the bout on points. Despite that, his coach Lovell didn’t lose hope in Edwards.

During the break in between rounds, Lovelle filled ‘Rocky’ with some motivational words. Come on, Leon, it’s one-one, come on. Don’t make him bully you, Leon!” he said.

In the video making round on the internet, we can hear Edwards’ trainer saying, “You gotta get f**ing ugly out there. You’re two-one. Come on, you’re letting him control you too much, son. You gotta get your hands going, Leon. You gotta get your hands going!”

In the further rounds, ‘Rocky’ seemed to have lost hope, as he didn’t look directly into the eyes of his coach. However, Lovell still believed in him and fired him with harsh words.

“Listen, stop feeling sorry for your f**king self. Come on then, what’s wrong with you?! You three f**king down. You gotta pull this sh*t outta the fire! Come on, Leon, you got this man,” Lovelle said.

After this, the  30-year-old landed, faked a left jab, and landed a left kick to Usman’s temple that knocked him out cold in the last minute of the fifth round. In a clip from the stands, we can clearly hear Edwards’ corner directing him to pull that iconic kick, which made him a world champion.

Leon Edwards vs. Kamaru Usman 3 is inevitable

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ had already defeated Edwards back in 2015 when they first met inside the cage. However, Usman was not able to do so in the rematch.

With this win, ‘Rocky’ ended Usman’s long title reign (five successful defenses) and 15-fight undefeated UFC streak. The score is 1-1 now. Hence, the trilogy is sure to take place.

Even Dana White confirmed that the third clash will take place somewhere in 2023. He has also hinted that the fight will take place in Wembley, London, in Edwards’ home country.

After this amazing win, Edwards will have many eyes on him to see what he does in the third fight. Usman, meanwhile, will return with all of his wrath in search of retribution. As a result, spectators will witness an epic trilogy.
