UFC 291 was the last time UFC fans got to witness Dustin Poirier take the center of the Octagon to entertain the fans with his unsurpassed skills. He fought Justin Gaethje – one of the best lightweight fighters on the roster, with the highly esteemed BMF title on the line. The fight was thrilling for as long as it lasted. But in the end, Gaethje won the fight and Poirier walked away, empty-handed. Now, ‘The Diamond’ is getting restless and maybe plotting a stellar return.
After losing the fight on 30 July, Poirier has been missing in action. He took time off the UFC and now, people are wondering when he will be back. In a recent interview, the former interim lightweight champ was asked about the same and Poirier had an interesting pitch for the UFC. But will Dana White and the UFC entertain him?

Dustin Poirier lays bare why UFC 300 return would be a dream come true
Dustin Poirier is without a doubt one of the biggest stars on the present UFC roster. With a stacked resume, Poirier has vied for the divisional title twice, and the BMF title once, albeit coming short on all three occasions. Will these accolades be enough to earn him a spot on the highly anticipated UFC 300 card? If it was up to him, Poirier would welcome the opportunity.
Dustin Poirier was recently interviewed by Mike Heck of MMAFighting for their YouTube channel. The interviewer asked Poirier when he plans on coming back and fighting in the UFC again and if he has any potential opponent in mind. “Right now, my current mindset… I – I’d fight – in six weeks, I’d fight in eight weeks, if – if the fight made sense and I was excited about it. But other than that, I think… you know a chance to fight on UFC 300’s a big deal.“, replied Poirier.
To justify his want to be a part of the UFC 300 fight card and to make the iconic UFC 300 more memorable, Poirier said, “I’ve been in the UFC since UFC 125 and I missed 200. You know, I know I’m not gonna be around for 400. So it’s kind of a – of a cool opportunity if it comes together, but I honestly have no clue of my – my return date or time frame.“
However, his interest in coming back to the UFC on UFC 300 was evident when he ended the discussion by saying, “But that UFC 300 kind of – kind of is enticing.” Fans would love to see the ‘Diamond’ back in action but the million-dollar question is this – does Dana White already have plans for UFC 300?
If his UFC 300 return materializes, Poirier could be potentially returning to the cage alongside his rival Conor McGregor. With a string of recent announcements for the first few PPVs of 2024, all signs point to UFC 300 in April for the return of ‘The Mac.’ While they may not be fighting each other, a card featuring both of these stars would definitely sell some tickets.
UFC 300 – The return of Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier?
Things are starting to get exciting in the UFC lightweight division. The spectacular Conor McGregor might be making a return to the Octagon at UFC 300. McGregor has said that he is going to be fighting Michael Chandler on his return. However, he also wants the BMF belt and has called out Justin Gaethje.

This leaves Poirier without a lucrative option from the lightweight top 5 and he has not fought below that ranking window in quite a few years. However, he is by no means without competition in the stacked lightweight division. Meanwhile, the title picture is taking shape elsewhere.

UFC lightweight champ Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira‘s fight is likely to be the next title fight. Justin Gaethje will likely get the winner of that contest for his title shot. This leaves the UFC with Poirier to spare if something interesting opens up in the next few months.
