Dustin Poirier went and fought out a rather brutal war against Benoit Saint-Denis. Denis is relatively fresh into his MMA career as compared to Poirier, who has now been active for years. Poirier rocked Denis in the very second round of the fight and managed to knock him out.

The #12 ranked fighter only entered the promotion back in 2021 and has only 2 losses in his career, with ‘The Diamond’ being his second. Sure, it looked like Poirier was having a rough time in the first round, but by the second, he’d managed to find his space. Later, he took some time to speak to UFC head honcho Dana White.

Dustin Poirier talks to Dana White but it looks like he’s speaking to Trump

Fans were taken aback when Dustin Poirier spoke to Donald Trump after winning his fight since the fighter and former president aren’t particularly close. However, in a recent conversation with Ariel Helwani, Poirier revealed that it merely looked like he was speaking with Trump.

In truth, he was talking to the UFC CEO, who was seated right alongside Trump. Poirier appeared on The MMA Hour Show to speak about a bunch of things and addressed the moment that left fans confused. “. . . it looked like I was talking to Trump, I was talking to Dana . . . I said ‘hey, hey, you want me to fight these young motherf**kers, huh? This is what happens.” He told Helwani.

Saint-Denis is 28-years-old while Poirier currently stands at 35. By no means is 28 a rather young age but it is certainly young to be fighting in the UFC. One could say that the ‘God of War’ is well within his prime and set for domination.

But not against ‘The Diamond’ who knocked him out after a few brutal punches to the head. Poirier tried putting on his infamous guillotine choke but failed multiple times. In the end, it was his hooks and jabs that got the job done. Now, perhaps he has the title in his mind.

Poirier could go for the belt

Dustin Poirier was wondering if this fight was going to be his last. Before UFC 299, he had opened up about how every fight could be his last at the age that he was at. Thankfully for fight fans, he isn’t about to call it quits just yet and looks forward to fighting the Dagestani king of the division.

Islam Makhachev is not only the reigning lightweight champion he’s also pound-for-pound the best fighter in the UFC right now. After winning his bout against Saint-Denis, Dustin Poirier showed his interest in fighting for the belt: “I haven’t spoken to the UFC but I think it could happen.”

“I said that you know in fight week doing those interviews and people ask me where do I think I am in the lightweight division and I really believed that I was one big win away, one good finish, you know, doesn’t matter the opponent I just need to look good,” he told Helwani. Poirier is now ready to fight Makhachev in June if he agrees to defend his title against him. Will the fight happen?
