Dustin Poirier has some of the toughest and most formidable fighters on his list of those he has defeated. Some of those opponents have even developed into ruthless rivals for ‘The Diamond’. Michael Chandler and Conor McGregor, to be specific. The former was most recently defeated by ‘The Diamond’ in a superb submission match. However, that didn’t close the curtains to the rivalry between Poirier and Chandler.

A clip of the ‘Iron’ calling out Poirier in his post-fight interview following his debut fight recently reappeared online. In that address, Chandler made some daring remarks and calls outs. And calling out Dustin Poirier was one of them. The public has paid a lot of attention to this clip, as has Poirier himself, who responded to it with one sassy word.

Michael Chandler entered the UFC with the goal of being its most exciting fighter. Additionally, he has taken numerous maneuvers in his quest for excellence, including calling out opponents, making bold claims, and even trash-talking to an extent. However, the Missouri native’s speech from his very debut victory hasn’t really held up over time. His call out for Dustin Poirier failed terribly. And having that clip resurface online has made ‘The Diamond’ rubbing salt in Chandler‘s wound.

Dustin Poirier responded to the clip by commenting, “Gottem!” under it. That is all that the Louisiana native had to say. And given how his fight with Michael Chandler at UFC 281 transpired, that does enough harm.

On a different note, the ‘Iron’ has showed his interest in fighting Conor McGregor for a long time now. He has called out ‘The Notorious’ on several occasions. And when Poirier was asked about who he’d favor if that fight occurs, he had a fairly unexpected response but backed by some legitimate reasoning.

Dustin Poirier favors Conor McGregor with a solid reason

Dustin Poirier recognizes Conor McGregor as a tremendous fighter despite the fact that he is an abomination to him. During an interview, ‘The Diamond’ was questioned about who he thinks would emerge victorious between McGregor and Michael Chandler. And he picked the Irishman without wasting any second. “I would favor Conor,” Poirier said.

He further added, “I think Chandler is very hittable, Conor’s timing. We’ll see with the layoff, too. Might be a big factor for Conor. But, yeah, I would pick Conor still in this one. Chandler’s hittable. Conor’s longer than him. (And) Chandler slows down.”

He went on to give a hypothetical breakdown of how the fight would play out. The 34-year-old said, “You know if he does wrestle heavy to avoid the striking with Conor, he’s going to slow down a bit, and he’ll be more in front of Conor and able to get touched. I would put money on Conor if the fight happens. Not that I can; I can’t bet. I can’t bet MMA.” It would seem that Dustin Poirier has little to no faith in Michael Chandler to defeat Conor McGregor.

That might possibly be a result of their combat’s frenzied back and forth. And ‘The Diamond’ is still enjoying taking jabs on Chandler, as his remark on the Chandler clip amply demonstrated.
