Dustin Poirier shuts down ‘replacement’ idea for Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler bout

When asked if he would be open to stepping in as a replacement fighter in December should either Conor McGregor or Michael Chandler withdraw, Poirier firmly responded, “No, I’m not a replacement fighter.”

This declaration is significant because Poirier holds victories over both Conor and Chandler. He notably became the first fighter to knock out Conor McGregor in the Octagon and submitted Michael Chandler in their bout.

However, the statement could also refer to Colby Covington, his former teammate. The two fighters have publicly exchanged sharp words since Covington’s unceremonious departure from American Top Team. Covington, in the past, had also offered to be a last-minute replacement for Gilbert Burns against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251.
