Dustin Poirier had been holding the news that he would be fighting Max Holloway in his farewell fight at UFC 318 on July 19. The fight, of course, is set to take place in the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, the place where he had his first-ever pro fight, near his hometown of Lafayette.

But it seems that isn’t the only huge news he had been holding close to his chest. In fact, the Holloway fight may not even be the biggest news (at least from a personal point of view) he had been keeping secret from the world. To every fan’s surprise, his wife and high-school sweetheart, Jolie, took to social media and announced that the couple is going to have a baby!

“Fight news wasn’t the only secret we were keeping from you… WE’RE HAVING A BABY! Sweet P will be a BIG SISTER FINALLY,” Jolie wrote on her Instagram account.

Poirier and his wife already have one daughter named Parker Noelle, who was born in 2016. As you can imagine, the couple is on cloud nine. And what a great time to have a baby. By the time their baby is born in December, Dustin will be retired and rich, and will have enough time to spend with his two little girls.

Who knows, maybe he will even teach them a thing or two about fighting. And as his last dance approaches with fellow legend and warrior, Holloway, one cannot help but marvel at the way he is retiring.

Dustin Poirier talks about what makes his retirement so special

Almost no one had a last like Dustin Poirier is about to have. Even the likes of Anderson Silva and Tony Ferguson went on horrific runs to the point that fans were begging them to retire. So retiring on his own terms, when he still can compete at the highest level (see his competitive UFC 303 clash with champion Islam Makhachev, which went to the fifth round), on a main event, and with his health and honor intact is a pretty big deal, as Poirier himself admitted in a recent interview.

Dustin Poirier's perfect farewell: Is retiring on top the ultimate dream for every fighter?

“I’m going out on my terms. I’m not getting squeezed out of this. I’m not letting the sport retire me. I’m retiring from the sport. How beautiful is this? I get to go out on top, potentially getting my hand raised, leaving the sport, retiring from the sport with a world championship belt on a pay-per-view. Come on, man,” ‘Diamond’ said.

Holloway, of course, is the BMF champion, having won the title off of Justin Gaethje in the 2024 Fight of the Year UFC 300 clash. Gaethje, in turn, had knocked out Poirier to win the then-vacant BMF belt at their UFC 292 clash in 2023. So not only have things come full circle for ‘Diamond’, but his last ever fight would be for a title. If you were to design a perfect farewell fight in a lab, you couldn’t do better than Poirier-Holloway for the BMF belt at UFC 318. What do you think about Dustin and Jolie Poirier’s big announcement?
