Mohammed Mokaev defeated Tim Elliot in the final round of their UFC 294 bout via an arm triangle choke. At first glance, Tim Elliot vs. Mohammed Mokaev looked like a battle of opposites. A contest between the vet Elliot’s flair and flamboyant striking against Mokaev’s ruthless, controlling wrestling. But, Mokaev’s constrictive style made the fight very one-sided.

Coming into the fight with an undefeated eleven-fight record (including one no contest), ‘The Punisher’ had dominated his opponents with his aforementioned wrestling and ability to stifle them once he got into proper positioning, which he displayed here. Elliot, on the other hand, came with an underwhelming 19-12 record. This record is, however, a result of having faced some of the best fighters in the division, indeed in history.

And his odd, unconventional, arhythmic fighting style is nothing if not exciting, which we saw little of due to the Russian’s constrictive anaconda-like hold on the American for the majority of the fight. But the fans were not happy with what they felt were underhanded tactics used by Elliot, or the officiating during the fight.

Tim Elliot vs. Mohammed Mokaev

Alexander Volkanovski once said of Mohammed Mokaev that he was ‘unsubmittable’, and that was proved today in his bout against Mokaev. The majority of the three rounds were spent on the ground with the undefeated fighter in a dominant position.

He displayed his strength when he slammed Elliot, momentarily knocking him out in the second round. Like an anaconda, the Russian kept squeezing and squeezing until at last he was able to lift and turn Elliot into an arm triangle to get the win around the third minute of the final round.
