“The pandemic changed the whole town, you know. And then a lot of the tech companies moved here too. That was a big part of it,” Rogan said. “A lot of these young people just didn’t want any part of San Francisco anymore,” he added.
A Forbes report from 2021 substantiates Rogan’s claims. The rising costs in the city forced the tech talent to find their livelihood elsewhere. As a result, tech companies also started moving away to attract more talent and avoid stringent regulations. Between 2018 and 2021, there were 265 relocations. And guess which US state was the new choice of headquarters for companies like Oracle and Apple? Yep, Texas.
Further, the popular podcaster revealed Musk’s confessions about the city. The Tesla founder had narrated the story of his friends getting assaulted in the city of San Francisco.
“Elon was saying five of his friends have been assaulted or robbed. You can’t lock your car. Yeah, you got to leave your car over because they’re going to smash you,” he said.

Just like always, Joe Rogan, along with his guest, gave his own unique opinions about this scenario. According to the UFC commentator, California is facing this problem primarily because of substance abuse.
“They basically empowered mental patients who are drug addicts to just live on the street and sh*t everywhere and harass people. There’s no sign that they’re turning it around.” If Rogan is to be believed, California is not able to handle squatters, or people who unlawfully occupy an uninhabited land or building.
